Pat Russell: "So you can't continue?"

Bernard Hopkins: "In my head, yeah."

I would have understood Hopkins throwing the fight had Dawson already established dominance by the second round, but that wasn't the case. Neither man had landed anything with any real significance. Why would Hopkins want out at that point? This is a man who is almost 50. It's not inconceivable that a fall and a landing like that could have done more damage than what the footage would actually suggest.

I'm going to wait and see what the doctor reports say.

Neither man landed anything significant, but IMO Dawson had Hopkins firmly in check with his right jab.

It's not inconceivable to me that Bernard just said "Ahh, **** it. I'm Danny ****ing Glover as Roger ****ing Murtaugh".

He just wanted to seek an easy way out. Even if he thought he had Dawson in check, he still would have had to go through a tough path to get the W. He took the path of least resistance. **** him.

I will give Hopkins credit for one thing though: he at least (implicitly) admitted that he had pulled ***** moves in the past :good

    Possibly.

But nobody checked for any wolf when the boy cried WOLF the third time.

In the post-fight interview with Kellerman, he (implicitly) admitted pulling similar **** against Calzaghe in rd 10, but (again, impliciitly) said that this time, he wasn't faking.

    :think

Meh. Check out some REAL takedowns here:

The one by Hamed definitely warranted a DQ IMO.

Nothing about that fight was difficult for either fight. It was fixing to be a stinker, and no real power connects had landed.

I'm waiting until the hospital results come back. He was thrown to the canvas. Who is to say he hasn't been hurt.

People mocked him for the Jones rematch, but the man collapsed in his dressing room afterwards. Sometimes, as fans, we just don't know everything about a fight right away. We would do well to acknowledge that once in awhile.

If he comes back totally clean and healthy, though, shame on him, and he should call it a career. Your an ATG, and the best old fighter in history, don't taint it with stuff like that.

I'm also waiting for the x-rays and ultra-sound on Marcel Cerdan's shoulder injury against Lamotta. Surely if he was really injured, he would have stayed down like Bernard.

I found it odd for a guy that dislocated his shoulder that he wasn't trying to keep that arm as still as he possibly could after the fight by holding his arm in place with the other hand.

Having seen guys that have disclocated their shoulders plenty of times watching Australian Rules Football, they almost invariably do that to stop the movement of the hurt shoulder. Hopkins was jiving and remonstrating with his upper body and leaving the arm of his hurt shoulder unclutched.

I know I'm biased on this, but I'm calling bull**** irrespective of what the docs declare.

If it's the first time he's ever dislocated it he'd be in almost indescribable pain and I doubt he'd be physically capable of conducting a post fight interview like he did with Kellerman.

And if he's just torn a muscle whilst it would be sore he should still be able to move it (all be it at a reduced capacity) and should've been capable of fighting on. This I know as I tore a shoulder muscle last year and even though my shoulder still freezes up when I lift things to a certain height I can still work with it (my job requires a lot of lifting) and I didn't miss a single days work with it.

That said I'm no doctor and maybe he was honestly incapable of carrying on but given his recent form (clutching his nuts everytime someone throws a punch below his eyebrow) I'm very dubious about the extent of his injury and his reactions after it.

Did it say what grade separation it was?

A grade 1 seperation would only cause a mild sensation in the shoulder, a grade 2 separation (which is what I had) causes pain, discomfort and a bit of swelling but a grade 3 separation would cause intense pain and does require surgery to fix so maybe Hopkins isn't bullshitting.

    We'll see.

The only pay per views worth your money have the name Emmanuel Pacquiao attached. The rest are full of general ***gotry, boredom, and outright cowardice. Remember folks.

Even my state of blackout drunkenness can comprehend how lame the state of top level boxing is.
