So that other million means a rematch brings in nothing or am I missing something? :huh Would that million guarantee a rematch if he lost a clear decision to Dawson? Like I said it's in no way clear one way or the other...
No but he didn't need to fake an injury to get another purse. It's not like Dawson brings any money to the table on his own anyway. And if the reason he quit was because he didn't think he could win and wanted to guarantee himself another title fight, then how in the world is he going to be any better prepared in another six months for the same opponent? It might not be clear one way or the other, but that particular theory has a whole lot going against it.
Hopkins did not dislocate his shoulder where the humerus bone is forced out of the shoulder socket resulting in the protrusion we most commonly see when a shoulder his dislocated. Hopkins separated his clavicle (collar bone) from the shoulder joint not the humerus hence why there is no protrusion. Anyone that knows anything about anatomy knows the clavicle is a much smaller bone and would not cause a protrusion if separated from the shoulder like a big bone such as the humerus. It's a legit injury. Why would Hopkins fake it? The fight was close and competitive, he wasn't being beaten up or anything and Hopkins chose to fight Dawson he looked good up to the point of the foul, seems idiotic to throw a fight so early when you are being competitive.
The reaction to this fight is absurd. I was expecting people to deride Dawson for fouling, but the majority of people are just going off on Hopkins for no logical reason. It's insanity. I never realized just how many ass-holes there are on this board. Some people even considering it a legit win for Dawson. How?
I was responding to Divi253's dumb theory that Hopkins was looking for a way out. I don't actually agree with that idea.
If Dawson would have won a clear UD BHOP would have no title. A clearly beat 46 year old brings far less attraction than a 46 year old record breaking champion. Champion BHOP and clearly beat BHOP bring two completely different amount of sales, aka what he makes in the fight. Not about legacy at this point, he's got a great one. He's getting paid IMO.
I can't believe the ignorance coming out of people's mouths when we are talking about Hopkins here! Losses to RJJ, JT, JC, and STILL returns to the ring now the dude is chicken cause he was down a round and change? WTF?
By Compubox Dawson had landed 7 punches. Bernard had landed 11. Dawson won the first round, I thought, but it just as well could have been even. Nothing much had happened in the second round, but Hopkins had landed six punches to Dawson's two. Neither landed a notable punch. There was absolutely nothing definitive in those two rounds. Pascal did far better in the first two rounds against Hopkins. I know people are emotional, but even for boxing fans people are being irrational. If that was anyone other than Hopkins 90 percent would be saying no contest. It will be a no contest, within the week.
The next Hopkins fight wouldn't be on PPV anyway. He's getting a guaranteed purse; the only reason this one was on PPV was because of HBO's budget. And besides that "a clearly beat" 43-year old Hopkins had no trouble finding another payday against Pavlik in his very next fight.
