well it doesnt really matter, when i said minor i meant in terms of treatment. if bhop felt he couldnt continue with a grade 1 dislocation then thats up to him.

landing on the elbow tends to dislocate the glenohumeral joint (ie the proper shoulder joint) not the ACJ, but it is possible.

bhop didnt dislocate his glenohumeral joint

I personally have played rugby with a mild AC joint separation and ,while it wasn't pleasant, it is possible to play sports at a high level with a mild separation as adrenaline is pumping and I didn't feel the full effects until after the match. The difference is that Ruggers can compensate by simply tucking their arms in while carrying the ball, short arming passes or not arm tackling. Boxers don't have that luxury however. They need full range of motion from both shoulders to be effective...especially at the world championship level.

Landing on your elbow can easily cause AC damage.

They mentioned it might be a separation of the shoulder.

I've separated my shoulder and it hurts like a *****, and I fell on mine with less force than Hop did on his.

If you had this acj dislocation, would you think the tendency would be to continue to lay on the side of the injury or to roll to the opposite side to take the weight from it?

Apparently the typical way this injury occurs is when a person falls directly on the point of the shoulder like when upended in a tackle and all their weight smashes the shoulder down. Hopkins broke most of the force of the fall with his ass and the impact to his elbow/shoulder seemed minimal. Even considering his age, it's quite peculiar that a man that fights at the elite level could be so physically fragile. Considering his history of selling injuries during fights, it's hard not to assume this was just another acting job.

A lot of people talking about the mechanisms of injury

    Glenohumeral joint (Shoulder dislocation)
    - this is usually abnormal force through the arm, which acts as a lever and causes the top of the humerus to pop out of joint

    ACJ dislocation
    - This in contrast is due to direct trauma at the shoulder usally lateral force. Fall onto the elbow is not a typical mechanism what BHOP had.
