I was glad I did not order the fight because of the last Mayweather fiasco that left a sour taste in my mouth but I was glad to hear that B-Hop and his cheap tactics were penalized and the ref had the balls to call the fight a KO. I thought the Ref should have DQ'd B-Hop during the Calzage fight, his attempt that succeeded to gain him rest by faking a foul that was apparently invisible B-Hop may have been hurt but his history at faking caught up with him
I agree, if it happened to a "clean" boxer, then I could've given him the benefit of the doubt. But not Hopkins, he's been pulling girlie tactics for years, particularly against Calzaghe and even against an ultra-shot Jones when Hops was far ahead. Also, when Bernard fell, most of the impact was on his hip/ass, the elbow only hit the canvas later. I'm sure it hurt but he was aiming for a DQ win or NC (an easy million, retaiting the title) but the plan backfired. With the way he's indignified boxing by pulling fake injuries/exaggerating low blows, while constantly head butting and holding himself, I don't feel sorry for him and hope he retires for good. I feel sorry for those who bought the PPV..
That was truly a sad fight, but i did hear B-Hop apparently got x-rays and he might actually be injured.
Hopefully this is the eye opener for all those fools who ever compared Hopkins to Marvin Hagler. Hagler may have complained about a decision or made the occasional excuse but he'd never show weakness. I remember when Mustafa Hamsho full-on butted Hagler in their rematch, infact I think it probably hurt Hamsho more, who was tough and gritty himself. Hagler blasted him out as payback. Hopkins would've wanted him disqualified.
I don't buy into it, these doctors are paid and in business, especially those around or associated with the fight game. Any insider knows this and lets face it when you tell a doctor you have pain he gives you the reason but it does not have to be genuine
We don't know if the injury was legit or not, I'm not sure, I don't know how anyone here can be so convinced 1 way or another. Hopkins is a cheat, but he was in the fight and it was close and only round 2 Silly post
There is another thread going on in general boxing that has links to some sort of doc report detailing real injury -- but I agree w bummy davis, that doesn't mean anything really.
ahh hopkins is a like a criminal who rats out his buddies it just isnt right he fouls like crazy, but he when he gets fouled he cries like a ***** there is nothing old school or gangster about this. when he fouls, hbo says he is crafty, if tyson or golota do something this they yell get this animal out of the ring, or he is trying to find an easy way out basically hopkins is like a snitch, whom the cops let sell drugs because he gives them info.
How so? Don't act like this is the first time Hopkins has whinged about something that most other all-time greats would have swept aside. I don't understand it, because you'd think that such a hard nut would just get on with the fight. Even if his shoulder is genuinely ****ed, I've always thought this about the man. He's a moaner, or too crafty for his own dignity. Can you really imagine Hagler or Monzon making a big deal out of the same things Hopkins has? Nil.
I agree that he did oversell it but , IMO, he was trying to get a point deducted from Chad and take control of the tempo of the fight.
i'm with PP in that we don't know anything yet. it may be genuine and it may not. pain is different for everything and from what i've heard of the fight, hopkins didn't call it off but the ref did (wasn't gonna pay $50 for this). either way, there is a history of hopkins playing up injuries a bit (the bull**** with jones comes to mind and he could have been counted out for that) and that other fighters have had dislocated shoulders and continued but we have no idea what happened to hopkins and i'm in no place to judge
1. He's 46 and nearly all his play acting has been after the age of 40 and this is about 10 years after Hagler/Monzon decided the boxing game was too much for them - he gets a pass 2. He's a dirty cheat, that doesn't make him a *****, it just means he's manipultive. 3. If he truly did dislocate his shoulder I can't imagine any boxer going on for long with an arm they couldn't lift up. 4. According to Hopkins he was never given an option to carry on or not by the ref - probably lying
He seperated his shoulder. A doctor's opinion, it is not. That is what the X-Ray showed. It is hard to pay off a machine. He oversold it? Sure. Was he hurt? Yes. Should the fight be an NC? Absolutely.
