And if so what would it take.the only 2 fighters in and around his weight class that could have been argued are Jones and Hopkins but he soundly beat both ?
Lets get this straight....just because he had nearly 50 fights and won them all does in no way mean he was unbeatable. It simply means he was unbeatable to those opponents in those particular fights. There's loads of fighters that would have beaten him. It's just that he never fought them. And as a result he remained unbeaten. And therefore unbeatable. Sheesh your dum And I hated his pretty boy looks, too. A slapper more like it
Well yes he loses to a prime jones and a prime bhop (most likely a rematch bhop aswell, hence retirement). He struggles with any of the current top 4 smw fighters imo. Calzaghe was an ok fighter, who got out at the right time, after a very sheltered career that he managed to successfully add some used up names at the end.
no jones never did. But josey filled me in on the first offer made by joe to bhop. bhop agreed then later demanded more money and a fight was not made. make of that what u will. But i will add wen that offer was made when joe was 31 and "in his prime" while bhop was 38 (typical joe strategy). 38 is not prime anything and just because bhop has had some pretty good wins since doesnt change the fact that he isnt at hi best and hasnt been for a long time.
There's no doubt in my mind that Hopkin's primje was 10 years earlier at 28. Oddly enough that was when Jones outpointed him easily :yep
I know you you are trying to wind people up with this thread. But i am a huge Calzaghe fan also. In my opinion the only guy around Joe's weight in his career that could have beaten him would have been Roy Jones Jnr. If they fought when both in there primes, it would be a really close contest, Both had super fast hands, Good footwork and great boxing ability. Roy had a bit more power but apart from that i think it would have been really close.
Jones and Calzaghe are the two best fighters of their era, perhaps ever. Hopkins could never, ever have beaten Calzaghe. Calzaghe was further past his prime than Hopkins when they fought. Yes Hopkins was older in terms of years since he was born, but Calzaghe was physically and mentally older. The fight happening at 175 also favoured Hopkins clearly had the strength advantage at that weight which allowed him to grapple effectively under the supervision of Cortez.
how do u know joe was more shot then hopkins? bhop had just lost 2 of his last 4 fights b4 they met, previously he had seemed unbeatable.
Did you see Hopkins was better against Pascal and Tarver than he was against Howard Eastman. This is partly due to the amounts of PEDs he has recently been on, but he looks barely any worse than he was against the likes of Eastman and smaller men like DLH. Calzaghe looked far slower and his reflexes seemed dulled against Hopkins, Jones, Kessler, Bika, Mandfredo and even the limited Lacy, despite that perfromance being hyped so much. The Calzaghe that beat Mario Veit would stop the version of Hopkins he fought, no dramas.
