I would say that a prime Jones Jr would rip him a new one. Hopkins on the other hand is questionable, but I think Jones Jr and Hopkins could take him.
Erm, he beat them when they were in their 40s. And even then, he escaped one of them with what many feel was a lucky decision, and fled into retirement soon after. Calzaghe was a good fighter, but don't be a fool in thinking he was unbeatable just because he had a clean record. Both Jones and Hopkins, in their prime, would have beat him easily.
He finished with a clean record so we will never no if he was beatable my opinion is that he wasn't beatable.:think
I think Kessler showed a glipse of how to beat him, get inside with uppercuts and hooks and move out again
Calzaghe was a great fighter, I seriously think a fight between he and RJJ in both their primes would have been 50/50 result. Calzaghe vs Hopkins back when it was originally intended would have seen a one-sided thrashing of Hopkins. Calzaghe got dropped by a few opponents but it was always early in a fight and he always recuperated quickly and came back and picked them apart - he used angles to get in and work out what his opponent had in their arsenal and then dismantled them - notice how with Kessler after 4 rounds the uppercut wasn't working for Kessler anymore, and by the 6th round Kessler was left staring into space wondering where Calzaghe had gotten to because JC was in and out and getting around him like the Tassie Devil by that point. I loved his adaptability and work rate, it'll be a long time before we see another freak like JC.
He looked beatable in plenty of fights..you would have to be very good and very willing to do it though.
if it was amateur rules anyone would have beaten him.... i seriously dont think i ever saw the **** hit with the knuckle part of the glove... would not have scored a point in olympic boxing
Agree with you on both counts. But I think would have taken a great opponent who was lucky enough to get Calzaghe on a bad day.
