Interesting question, r. Can't giveya a real feel for that. Only at WC when Pac trains. The gym's cleared, but for sparring partners, cornermen 'n 24/7 camera crews.
ive seen a couple of his fights on utube, and he intrigues me. he is so fluid with his punches, it like poetry in motion. plus, he had a very good chin, a warrior in the ring. definitely one of the most complete fighters around. his streak of like 130 wins without a loss, or, something like that, is amazing. that just shows u he was dominating the competition. i believe he never was knocked out, only one time when he didnt come out for the round. unbelieveable
You've described it, in a nutshell, BF...but beyond the record, it was the charisma 'n drama he brought into the ring; the ever-present silk lightening.
John, could you ask Freddie what he thought of LInares' fight and what he thinks Linares needs to improve on? Tomorrow's headline reads: "Pac out with a broken toe!" That's interesting.
initially, when I first saw Ali -- still named Clay -- at the 5th St. Gym in Miami, he was a lean, motor-mouth fresh from the Olympics. Couldn't understand all the hype about him. Had no work ethic, pitty-patted sparring, couldn't break 'n egg 'n couldn't fight inside. Thought the first quality heavy he faced would launch him into space. Talk about eatin' crow.
Pitty pat? Wow that's a first lol. I did read an Ali interview somewhere (I think) where he said training sessions were 45 minutes of training, and 2 hours of showboating.
All Clay wanted ta do was chase tail 'n drive Angelo Dundee nuts with his partner in crime, Willie Pastrano.
people dont really remember ali from his early part of his career before he went to prison. he was a totally different fighter. fluid, great foot work, u couldnt catch him with a ten foot pole. he was so fast with his combos, it was a sight to see. and his defense was superb way better than his fights with frazier. those 3 years did him in, physically. he was never the same fighter again, athletically. i guess what made him great was his heart from then on. but, the ali before prison would of demolished frazier, in my opinion.
