Over a year ago on youtube I saw a CLEAR film of Tommy Gibbons destroy a Jack Bloomfield in 3 rds, 1924 at Wembley Stadium in London. I was utterly astounded by Tommy Gibbons,beautiful and powerful combinations. This one clip showed to me the true calibre of the fighters in the 1920s, when seen clearly and in TRUE TIME. Whoever showed this fight on youtube over 1 year ago,for the sake of ESB, I beseech you to show it one more time. Or at least some info on that film. Thanks...

I have a special interest in Jack Bloomfield of Britain as a a youngster met I believe a brother of Jack Bloomfield,when I was dating his step-daughter for a brief time. But folks on ESB I was stunned by the beautiful punching of Tommy Gibbons,past his peak at 33 years of age. Like the Rosetta Stone of Egypt,this film would enlighten us today,as to the great skillks of a past peak Tommy Gibbons. Heretofore, I thought of Gibbons as a cutey boxer, but this man could HIT. My first thought on seeing this film one year ago, was to wonder how the hell a middleweight like Harry Greb ever lick this tough heavier Gibbons.?
don't have a youtube account - wouldn't know where to start to be honest but I have the footage you are talking about and yes it's a brilliant display of punching and finishing from Gibbons - if you have a look at that link I put on the thread about public voting on Dempsey's next opponent the press talk of Gibbons as a popular public choice due to his punching ability aswell - I know Gene Tunney had a great deal of respect and admiration for the fighter Tommy Gibbons - hugely under rated IMO as well
Thanks Rocky. I'm glad the film is in good hands .Gibbons was a tough old cuss,having 105 fights, NEVER being stopped, til at his last bout in 1925, with the peak great Gene Tunney. Nat Fleisher had Gibbons ahead of Ezzard Charles and Archie Moore as all-time lightheavyweights. For what it's worth... Cheers R.:good
It was a big blow to the internet boxing community when RareBoxing's channel got taken down. My advice to people, try to stay away from uploading recent fights or non-boxing related stuff to a boxing channel. That way they will stay up. No one cares about the copyrights for old fights, if there are any, it's the newer stuff that gets taken down. As for the Gibbons-Bloomfield fight, I hope to put it up as soon as I get my hands on it and will then post it here. I regret not having downloaded the footage from youtube when I had the chance. Gibbons looked very good indeed putting together combinations to finish off Bloomfield.
I have it but dont have a youtube account. An interesting fact about the film: The version which is common, which was on youtube, doesnt actually show the KO. It looks like Bloomfield was KOd but in the longer version the fight continues (from memory it seems like the KD shown as the KO was at the end of a round and the bell saved Bloomfield) and Gibbons blows him out of the water shortly thereafter with a much more devastating KO than the one shown on the short version.
K, I can't recall the minutia of the details of the knockout, but the power and two handed blows by Tommy Gibbons, left me in awe.Just seeing this clear and impressive punching display reinforced my dad's admonition how good the top fighters of his day [1920s] were. And of course ,the greatness of that "seven year itch", Harry Greb who licked this bigger devastating puncher Tommy Gibbons,I saw before me on the film.The old adage that "a picture is worth a thousand words ", hold's true to me....
