No. Joe beat a steady stream of opponents and his best were clearly better as Froch's imo. He beat prime Kessler, beat 43 yo Hopkins at his hometurf with his own judges and referee... has a few other (past prime, I give you that) huge names on his resume like Eubank and Roy Jones. Not to mention Ward is pretty much unproven with only 1 really good win. Froch might surpass him someday, but he has to beat Ward and Bute and be a champion for a while after that.
Calzaghe's clearly the better overall fighter, but his resume is very thin at super middleweight. Kessler, Eubank, Reid, Lacy, Bika, Woodhall, Mitchell, and Brewer doesn't equate to all-time greatness. If Froch beat Andre Ward, he'd definitely have a case on the resume front.
I'd love to see a rematch with Kessler, the first was very pretty entertaining. Maybe this time Froch could be the home fighter.
The shot semi-retired, called at a few weeds notice, Eubank at SMW and Roy Jones wins aren't really worth nowt to be honest. Once can perhaps give Joe a little credit for the Eubank win as he was fairly green at the time challenging for a vacant title, but Eubank's days at SMW were well, well, well behind him. To be honest, I'm astounded anyone would give Calzaghe a single ounce of credit for beating that version of Roy Jones, it was an insult to boxing that the fight was ever made.
You see, that is were you are wrong... This content is protected Calzaghe's resume was not the greatest, but longevity is a massive factor IMO when comparing the two boxers. Calzaghe's reign, although not the greatest, spanned a long time, over ten years in fact. Once Froch is finished, when comparing the two, Froch will have some big names/wins on his resume (win or lose) whereas Calzaghe will have some very good wins, some good wins...and the longevity. Could be close by the time Froch finishes, but I expect Froch to be done in about 2-3 years (especially with the names and battles he has been in so far).
Yes, he must do. Froch has packed far more tough opposition into a couple of years than Calzaghe managed into over a decade.
I think if Froch goes on to beat Ward, then Bute, then Kessler in a rematch and defends 2-3 times against decent contenders then he will surpass Joe
First of all there's no way that Froch will win that fight If he wins I still will rate Calzaghe higher.
