Interesting take on Hopkins which I tend to agree with

Foul play is part of boxing. I dont dislike him for fouling. I dislike how he reacts when someone gives him back a dose of his own medicine.
Bowe could fight dirty, but he didnt fake BS injuries when the tables were turned.

Absolutely brilliant analysis. The exact reasons I consider Bernard a very good fighter but no alltime great.

I'm pretty certain Hopkins told the ref that he would continue on and the ref simply wasn't having it and called the fight. Hopkins fought on against Echols when the same thing happened to him. He even reacted the same way, the only difference was that Tony Weeks handled the situation properly and Pat Russell did not.

One thing I can't figure out though is that Dawson seemed genuinely angry, yet he is unwilling to fight Bernard again, even if the fight is rightfully changed to a no contest and Bernard gets the belts back.

I disagree he showed great heart vs pascal only last year afer being dropped twice early and trailing on the cards in canada.
Hopkins is just very shrewd and calculating, people call it old skool, smart or *****,boring, unfair.
He is a atg, not the most exciting at times but not a coward just an extremely Machiavellian attitude.

Hopkins's longetivity is amazing, but there is no question he has always been very, very dirty and has been beaten multiple times by more athletic fighters that were not intmidated by him at all.

He should have been dq'd in the figth with Echols and Winky as well.

Excellent write up ..The more boxers that get interviewed the more of them say Hopkins quit ..Only his die hard fans are defending him ..Hopkins is a great middleweight but he's far from Archie Moore .:good

My take on Hopkins is this: He's one of the smartest boxers in ring history. There is a reason he's the oldest champion of all time, and it's not the dirty tactcs that he uses. I can forgive cirtian things from boxers such as elbows, headbutts but not Victor Ortiz style head butts. Hitting the arms and leggs to tire out your oppoent all of which Hopkins employs. What I can't stand about Hopkins is that he would fake a foul and or an injury to win a boxing match. All evidonce shows that he did in fact suffer an injury against Dawson and that he got a raw deal in the ref's decision to rule the fight a TKO win for Dawson. Hopkins is the man who cried wolf and this is the time when the towns people ingored his cry and the wolf was really there. I don't want to say Hopkins who did a bit of acting to buy himself time against Calzhgie and to help stave of a knockdown at the hands of Roy Jones in the second fight deserved it, but I find it hard to fell bad for him.

Considering his ring IQ it baffles all of us to see him fake and cry like that ..Makes you wonder how much of G he really is ..Once the bully gets bullied his true colors come out ..

Hopkin's resume is very solid and he is well-entrenched in the ATG ranking, but I think he should not get a pass for his Calzaghe defeat.

The master boxer was made to look like a helpless bullied kid. Prime for prime, I feel Calzaghe has his number.

Very true this is also a reason why he ducked Joe C in 02 ..

Not sure about the ducking, but it would have been more competitive (and not boring).
