Marciano would force the fight but he would walk into an onslaught of punches the likes of which he never saw. The hammering jab would find its mark, the counter-punches would take their toll, the uppercut would smash into his durable jaw and the combinations would eventually have him helpess, though not before seriously troubling the great Joe Louis and sending him crashing to the canvas, only to find Louis climb back up more focused than ever.

prime louis takes care of rocky. i think he stops him late. louis was even having a little success when they fought in '51. not hard to see that a better version of louis wins.

Marciano might get a knockdown or two out of this, but not much else. He is outgunned comprehensively here. Stopped on cuts, decisioned, or just outright stopped. I don't believe Marciano could stand up to the full Joe Louis arsenal over 15.

Good post. Rocky would be walking into an onslaught of Leather. Left Jab, Left Hook off the Jab, straight Right coming at lightning speed. Rocky would trouble Joe to be sure, hitting with counter rights that would shake Louis, of that there is no doubt. In this bout this would not be the Louis of 51, but a prime Louis who was quite capable of getting off the canvas and taking care of business with urgency. As Rocky would soon find out.

I just like Marciano in this match. Not that I want to play too much into their fight, maybe just more into the idea of Rocky against a prime Louis. Goldman thought Louis in his prime would lose too because he would come at Rocky. This is probably not true. Louis would play role of matador, boxing, punching, and countering from a distance. Rocky plays into Louis hands by coming into that power and those combinations (Although the crouch will off set those lovely combos). However, Louis plays into Rocky's hand by being an upright, almost stationary target (There to be hit, there not to run essentially). If Rocky can somehow close the distance he will nullify those combinations. Louis punches short, but he likes some room to operate punches in succession.

It's undoubtedly an interesting dynamic. I think that for all intensive purposes, Louis adapt far better after a fight then during it, which is why I'd pick Marciano to win in a fight if they fought one time. However, if there was a trilogy I'd definitely slide with Louis due to style, wear & tear, and his adaptability.

Prime for prime Louis would've feasted on Marciano. The combinations he would eventually send The Rocks way (after breaking him down with his jab and right cross) would have The Brockton Blockbuster in severe trouble, facial damage making it hard for him to see, and finally being begrudgingly smashed to the floor.

Louis KO14 Marciano, in an action-packed fight.

Charlie Goldman was asked how a younger Louis would have done against Marciano after their fight in October of 1951...said Goldman:"It would have been a shorter fight...you DON'T come AT Rocky Marciano!"...I like Rocky in this one...
