Agreed in a sense. Godoy's sort of unpredictable in & out was more varied and different than Marciano. But the getting low and crowding was essentially what gave Louis the biggest issues, not just fighting at a varied rhythm

    .
Marciano comes in low (Maybe not quite as exaggeratedly, however he'd be in better position to attack because of that). Marciano would have the better in close quarters, just like they did in their actual fight regardless of the state of Louis he's not going to win in close quarters.

Godoy tied up and smothered Louis. Marciano would be the one choosing to smother, but not typing up, instead doing work. Why would Louis choose to smother Marciano? That makes no sense.

You're describing the subtle stylistic difference between Marciano from 54-55 as opposed to 51-53. High volume Marciano preferred space, but watch how Marciano works against taller fighters. Just watch his fight with Louis. He's intent to fight IN a phone booth. He's a much more calculated, stalking, slugging pressure fighter that works in closer quarters, as opposed to a "Throw at cautions wind" swarm punches in every arena approach from the later version of Marciano (Which arised at the goal of never being in a losing situation of a fight as a result of Walcott-Marciano I).

    Boxing 101:

Difference between power punching and better puncher.

My opinion? Marciano had more power. Louis was the better puncher. I understand this debate makes for an almost tedious discussion since Louis is the all around better puncher. However, point being is that if Marciano lands on the sweet spot he's more likely to concuss you and leave you senseless. So, the distinction warrants some merit.

How many 1 punch KO's does Louis have over rated opposition? I think Louis was the 2nd greatest puncher at HW (I am one of the few that seem to rank Tyson as the greatest puncher at HW, perhaps Louis is greatest on a P4P level).

Thought that was a bit condescending after I said it. My bad. Point still stands.

    Atleast

Massera may or may not have been rated
    Ramage
    Uzcudun
    Ettore
    Pastor
    Braddock
    Paychek
    Gus Dorazio
    Savold

There were quite a few other who were dropped a few times until being flattened for the 10 count.

I dunno if you wanna call Savold a 1punch ko. Louis throws a short right uppercut right before the left hook that ends it, very very easy to miss

Kingfish Levinsky was basically a 1punchko. Harry Thomas took a left to the jaw and was out.

    I know.

I presumed you had seen them, your post count made that obvious.

I just think a full power Suzie Q carries more raw power than Louis's best punch.

I don't think the uppercut had anything to do with the KO though. That left hook would have ended it either way.

Louis was also routinely flattening people in boxing exhibitions, a few of which I have on film. Some are quite devastating.

Not a quality opponent of course. Some were though, such as poor Pat Valentino, Elmer Ray and Nino Valdes among others.

I actually think it was the snapping right that he threw at Savold, kind of like the old ones he used to chuck, that started the whole thing. Hard to tell sometimes exactly what a one punch KO is with those combinations.

I've always loved that sort of duck/skip into a left hook he did in those exhibitions, reminds me of a less exaggerated version of Patterson's leaping left hook- and clearly deadly in it's own right.

They had the same trainer, and manager. Goldman seemed to have some success against Louis.

FYI I still favor Louis over Rocky by mid round TKO

Let's not under-estimate the toughness of Godoy either. Nobody KO'd him aside from Louis.
