Logic says Martinez is too big and too powerful...

...but every time I watch one of his fights on dvd, I can't help thinking that this fight could work for Pacquiao.

Martinez is very fast at mw, but trust me, if he was in the ring with a small ww like Pac, he would be at a glaring speed disadvantage.

Martinez is so wide open to be hit, I just see Pac landing on him a lot more than Sergio lands on Manny.

Would it be enough? Maybe not. Martinez with the extra weight will take a shot better and land his own shot with more power...

But I'd be interested in this fight, for sure.

For what it's worth, I think Mayweather schools Martinez, but Pacquiao beats Mayweather. Styles, sizes and attributes make fights.

I dont think Pac can beat Martinez, simply because Pac cant fight backing up.

Not a fight I would have any confidence in picking without the benefit of first watching and reading about each fighter's preparation for the other during their pre fight training camps. Even then I probably won't feel too strongly about my final prediction. If my arm is twisted today, I'd probably reluctantly pick Pac to find a way to win a controversial SD.

i think pac has the tools to beat sergio, if he can avoid geting rocked. no way is sergio going to land more than manny but he will get some in. i think manny will have the edge in speed and stamina so he will fight him similar to how he fought oscar, get off first and dissapear. the danger for pac will be when he chooses to trade hooks, and he will. if he can avoid geting knocked into ***** street, he can win on points. I also think floyd could beat sergio, but it would be ugly as hell.

Pac destroyed Margarito while backing up, but that's another story because I know Martinez ain't Margarito.

However, there isn't a fighter in the world right now good enough to make Pac fight backing up, because Pac's footwork and movement (when he isn't suffering leg cramps) are so fast and fluid now that he will pivot his way out of danger and keep the fight in centre-ring. Even though Martinez is bigger and stronger and may attempt to walk Pac down, he won't be able to force Pac into retreating back in straight lines because Pac has lateral, in-out movement and good footwork. Martinez could easily win this fight, but he wouldn't do it by walking Pac down, he'd need to throw the right shots to land during centre-ring exchanges.

The only fighters who'd be able to make Pacquiao fight backing up would be guys like Roberto Duran at 147 and Julio Cesar Chavez at 135, guys who were experts at cutting off the ring, and who had excellent head movement and iron chins on the way in. Their forward aggression at speed (which Duran possessed at lw & ww, and which Chavez possessed at sfw & lw) would force Pac to fight going backwards, and then we'd see Manny struggle.

But Martinez is not that fighter.

Martinez is very big in comparison, but Pac could probably make him miss often (YEA THATS RIGHT I SAID IT)

Floyd called Sergio's punches "wild shots"
Pac in a video where he's watching Sergio fight Dzinziruk comments on how Sergio's missing his shots

    Agree with this guy ^^^

Betting wise, I'd consider it a 50-50 fight. The same points you mentioned here, i.e. the speed contrast, would be quite notable. As would such things as awkwardness. Much of Sexy Sergio's boxing prowess comes from his vaunted awkwardness. Have we all forgotten over night the speed of Pacquiao and his mastery of weird angles? Combined together, Sergio's "awkwardness" or "craftiness", however you wish to dub it, is addressed to at least some extent. Simply calling Sergio a "bigger version of Pacquiao" is ignorant. Unfortunately, a number of posters have done that in this thread.

I also do not see Sergio timing Manny. At least, to the extent that Marquez has. Thus if/when Martinez gets hits off on Manny, they will most likely be glancing blows. Statistically speaking, one should nonetheless expect a few very hard hits from both sides in each fight, but Manny has (thus far) proven to have an iron chin, and more importantly, an iron will. Without regularity of being caught, I doubt Manny would be stopped.

A points win for Manny seems the most likely outcome. Still there is a possibility for a Sergio TKO. If Manny wishes to pursue this fight, I'd welcome it. I'd love to see it. If he doesn't, though, I could understand why. If he wins, I am sure people would find ways to discredit the win (barring meeting Sergio at 160. I do sincerely believe that despite clamor for a half-way fight at 150-154, people will hate on Pacquiao if he fights and beats Martinez at 154).

You're right. I forgot about Sergio's stamina. Pacquiao, on the other hand, is relentless and has the tank to go with it.

Sergio's hands down defense makes his head Club Med for Pacquiao's fists.

    Pac by points.
