According to Bhop......." I can fight, with ONE ARM". He didn't quit, the ref made the call w/o consulting the ring doc or the rule book. Ruling that NO FOUL was committed was a travesty. BHOP DQ2 Dawson No, IB, give me back my Vbucks.
That might be true, and its the ref job to warn Hopkins of this. Its not because you headbut me that I can retaliate for free.
So if a fighter is losing a fight, you're cool with him coming out of a clinch "slipping" on the canvas, claiming his knee is injured, and it being ruled a "no contest"? You are welcomed to support whatever you like, but bottom line a fighter who's injured and can't continue is a TKO. There was no foul (according to the only person who matters), Hopkins sat there and quit on the fans, the sport, and the fight...he lost period. He could have chosen to do what Danny Williams did, what Yuri Foreman did, but he didn't he chose to quit. Foreman didn't injure his knee via a punch or any sort of engagement with Cotto, it buckled randomly, had he not been able to continue it would have been a TKO...it's a pretty simple idea, and not one unique to this situation. This sets a horrible precedent, and will be an issue again going forward, for other douche bag fighters who want out of a fight.
Now I will shake things up and mess around.... Dawson and Hopkins are both saying after fighting Pascal in Canada that their was drama in their fights. So, what if it happened but against Pascal in Canada!!!
Ok, well what happened "there" was: Hopkins quit, there was no foul, it's a common sense TKO victory for his opponent...
Sorry I made a thread after you on this, I checked if their was one on the first page and didnt see one...
I can fight with one arm......no ref called Danny Williams KO win a TKO for his opponent, so why wasn't Bhop afforded the same opportunity? Instead, as soon as BHOP said he could fight on, the ref stops it!:-( It should have continued or ended in a DQ win for BHOP.
WBC TO RECOGNIZE HOPKINS AS CHAMP by ringtv Oct 20th, 2011 9 The World Boxing Council will continue to recognize Bernard Hopkins as its light heavyweight champ following a vote of its board of directors on Wednesday, RingTV.com has learned. The majority of the WBC's board members disagreed with the official call of Hopkins' WBC and RING title defense against Chad Dawson on Saturday in Los Angeles. Dawson won the fight by controversial second-round TKO after shoving Hopkins to the canvas where the 46-year-old champ injured his left shoulder and was deemed unfit to continue by referee Pat Russell. Hopkins maintains that he was fouled by the young challenger and thus the bout should have been ruled a No Contest. Russell did not view Dawson's shove as foul, accidental or otherwise. Golden Boy Promotions filed a protest with the California State Athletic Commission which will review the fight and make a ruling at a Dec. 13 hearing. THE RING magazine continues to recognize Hopkins as its champ pending that ruling.
If you twist your ankle from a legal shot or just because you sliped thats your problem. If you twist your ankle because somebody gives you an illegal shot it cannot be ruled as the champ quit. If so, why not use your legs or elbows? Because that is not boxing.
When did Hopkins say he wanted to continue? All I heard was him answering the ref's question with another question: -"Can you continue?" -"With 1 hand yeah?"
