Hearns can't keep Hagler outside for the 12/15 rounds so Hagler catches upto him sooner or later

there is more to it. Hearns was a sharp punching quick fighter. Hagler would be more settled down and Hearns punches swelled up Marvin's face enough in the first fight quickly. If the fight goes even 6 rounds, I think Marvin's face is swelling badly and he would not last the distance.

Hagler /Hearns summary....... That's what makes this rematch so facinating. The first fight both men abandoned their styles and went at it. Hagler fought the perfect fight and Hearns broke his hand and had the questionable leg massage thing going on. Hagler was a more natural middleweight at the time, while Hearns was just getting started at that weight on a championship level..a year or so later Hearns was a more natural Middle while Hagler was showing signs of fading but still mighty strong. In the third round of the fight, Had Hagler not seen red by the bout almost being stopped because of his cut,Hearns may have stopped him because he was beginning to box with success.. Could Hagler muster up that strong agressive style again against a more filled out Hearns who went up to even higher weights down the road??? Does Hagler know how to get to Hearns as others have failed regardles of weight???? Two awesome warriers that should have done it again. But I guess Sugar Ray :happywas more appealing at the time. But on that night of April 15 ,1985 (wow so long ago) A Rocky film became a reality.

Hearns would do better this time out,but he would have that knockout in his mind, and would get stopped by Marvin by the time the ninth round bell has rung.

People can laugh off the leg massage thing all they like but Manny Steward told it matter of fact and I believe him. He said it was a terribly dumb thing and was in shock but the facts are that Hearn's legs were shot after the first round v.s. Hagler ..

If Tommy boxed as he could he had a shot at an upset as he could bust Marvin up ... I do not see him ever KOing Marvin ... it could have been an interesting rematch.

I think the first match was telling enough, Hagler could take Hearn's punches, but not vice versa. Even if Hearns did have his legs proper, even though leg massage thing is probly bull****. Marvin would have eventually caught up and taken Tommy out.

    Its a tough call.
Hagler felt Hearns' power in that 1st round, and I think Hagler didnt want to fight someone like Hearns again.

    Hagler ducked the rematch, though.

Hearns broke his hand. In a rematch, Tommy would have had the better range. No way Marvin fights that hyped up a fight in the second fight. His motivation on the first fight was also a little personal. the second fight he is more calm and more in Hearns range of jab and right, and he was hit easily by Hearns in the first fight. I think the second fight has to be a better fight for Hearns and Hearns is also more natural at the weight this time around. I don't know if he could knock Marvin down, although I wouldn't doubt it. I think he could absolutely bust up Marvin and stop him on TKO.

I think he knew fighting Hearns again might end up being a loss. Which is similar to Ray when he beat Marvin in 1987.

Hagler could handle Hearns getting offense off.

Hearns would probably end up down and out the second Hagler got one single major breakthrough.

A fighter of Hagler's class is going to be able to have a moment in a fight. It'd be all he'd need.

Not that I think it'd come down to that. I think Hagler would dominate him quite emphatically. Styles advantage, and had some technical factors going his way that really screwed with Hearns' game.

I just don't think Tommy has the legs or the chin to handle Marvin Hagler. Ever.

Hearns had no punch resistance whatsoever after the first fight, and who would after such a brutal KO? It's a testament to Tommy's greatness that he went on to achieve what he did after suffering what would have been a career ending KO for most others.

Hearns took some great shots in the first fight without folding in the first 2 rounds, but he was never the same again. That alone would be enough for Hagler to get the KO. Would still be touch and go and a rough night for Hagler, who wouldn't be nearly as motivated as Hearns, and was on clearly on the slide. Hearns would go in there to box, but at some point, he's going to get nailed after taking a few rounds of body punches. If Roldan, Kinchen and Barkely could reach him, an old Hagler could.

Hearns would have soundly outboxed him and there wouldn't be a damn thing Hagler could have done about it.
