Muhammad Ali did the honorable thing by standing up to the government and not going overseas to kill people who were no threat to this land. Fighting for his country?? I wasn't aware that the Viet Cong were ever a threat to our country. Could you show me any type of documentation from the Viet Cong threatening to invade this land or attack the U.S.? Of course you can't because they never did. This was yet another case of the U.S. attempting to be the world police and in this case it backfired. Muhammad Ali is a hero. He didn't dodge the draft he stood tall and fought the draft. I, for one, don't blame those who dodged the draft, but definitely have respect for Ali for giving up almost everything to fight for what he believed in. Get your facts straight before spouting off such nonsense.

Ameica's reason for getting involved in Vietnam are well documented. President Ike never once said the Viet Cong possed a direct thread to US soil. Instead he, along with following presidents, believed a domino effect would occur, leaving the US seriously isolated on the world stage.

Whether Ali was right or wrong not to fight is down to personal preferance on whether the war was justified. People often look back on it as a massively unjust war, but at the time, the general mood was very different, particulalrly after the French were defeated at Diem Biem Phu in 54.
