I would like to eventually do every decade back to John L s time snd this is as good a decade to start with. I think that this would help get a realistic gauge on many peoples all time top 10 lists. it is often so easy to forget so many great fighters and often a consensus or close to consensus does emerge when most people to their lists.

So, without thought, how would everyones top 10 of the current decade look.

I would have thought (off the top of my head) that it would be something like:

    1. Lennox Lewis
    2. Wladimir Klitchsko
    3. Vitali Klitchsko
    4. Chris Byrd
    5. Hasim Rahman
    6. John Ruiz
    7. Russian Chagaev
    8. Nicolai Valuev
    9. Evander Holyfield
    10. Lamon Brewster

Would this be a fair list, is the order wrong or should others be included. By the way, ranking is to be purely on results and legacy throughout the decade, no potential. Are these guys the 10 best fighters to appear in this last decade?

I think Wlad deserves to be above Lennox for this decade. Nor overall but for this decade. I would also rank Ruiz and Chagaev over Rahman and Brewster over Valuev.

Wlad K- 05 to 10 he was dominant lots of wins beat all comers even good wins early
L Lewis- did not fight much during the decade though scored huge wins Tyson, Holy, Vitali

Vitali K- good wins great fighting a h2h nightmare just cut short by injury and great comeback

Byrd- reigned for a few yrs with the IBF beat Tua and Holy and Vitali
Ruiz - held the WBA for a bit beat Holy, deserved to beat Valuev 2X, fough Chag well
Valuev- long undefeated streak won and defended a title lost in a BS fight vs Haye
Rahman-2X WBC champ only guy on the list to beat Lewis though he was fat and fought poor a lot during the decade

Brewster- short WBO reign defended well fun to watch big heart big left hook
Peter- WBC champ fought Klits 3X Toney 2X wealth of experience fights well when in shape

Holyfield- didnt wanan put him on the list as he lost all of his big fights but he was in them and fought competitivley

honorable mention Sanders the Wlad TKO was huge and he fought brave vs Vitali in a good slugfest

Looking at those who voted so far, it seems as if Wlad over Vitali is pretty close to consensus and there is at least some support for Wlad over Lewis. Vitali seems to be behind in third. And Chris Byrd is probably a consensus number 4.

Another thing which does surprise me a little bit is the high rating of Sam Peter.

    Peter
    Toney
    Holyfield

I believe the best victory of the decade belongs to rahman.

    At this stage,
it seems pretty common ground that this decade has a few separate groups.

    Lennox, Lewis, Wlad

    Byrd, Ruiz, Rahman, Valuev, Chagaev

    Brewster,Holyfield, Peter, etc.

    4. byrd
    5. ruiz
    6. rahman
    7. brewster

Well, he did technically beat Ruiz, Rahman and Byrd, but then balance this with losses to Valuev and Ibragimov in close fights. It is a difficult call, i guess but if he doesnt sneak into 10th, he mustnt be all that far from the spot.

Did i miss this win over byrd??

ok wlad, vitali, lewis, byrd, ruiz, rahman, brewster, peter.
Those 8 are in everyones. And they rightfully deserve to be.
That leaves two spots. How could holyfield be one of them two?? Toney dominated him and had a better decade. Iggy dominated him and had a better decade. Valuev fight was razor close but valuev had a way better decade. theres 3 guys who holyfield was not better then this past decade. and guys like chagev...he accomplished alot more too. Theres no possible way holyfield makes it. Please someone justify how they have him in there top ten? Its impossible.

    1. Wlad Klitschko
    2. Vitali Klitschko
    3. Lennox Lewis
    4. Chris Byrd
    5. Hasim Rahman
    6. John Ruiz
    7. Russian Chagaev
    8. Nicolai Valuev
    9. Sam Peter
    10. Lamon Brewster

Putting Lewis above Wlad and Vitali is absurd. Considering Wlad has beaten ever guy in the Top 10 list and hasn't lost in several years, while Lewis was only active for 3 years.

Explain why Toney is in your top 10? He has wins over an old Holyfield, Dominick Quiinn and some Danny Betcher. Toney doesn't deserve to be in the top 50 of the decade (in heavyweight division obviously).
