Just for record, we would not be able to compete internationally league by league had it not been for the money from sky. Real, Barca and Milan would of still been the teams to beat. It is a joy to witness Ronaldo, Suarez, Aguero and Torres in our league. As you say another debate.

But yeah overall my opinion is if you wanna **** a bird dont go balls deep first time else you wont get it again. You need to charm her, play with her and get her in the mood before you get your wicked way. The same goes for customers mate. Give em something then take. But never forget to give else the chances to take will be few and far between.

There are some childish, over the top insults on this thread. You dont have to buy it if you dont think it is worth £15. But, going by the figures that PT generated for the last Mayweather fight, there is a PPV market for the elite fighters at 4am. Sky or Boxnation could have got the rights for this if they had been prepared to pay for it.

 

What I don't get is the easy time that Sky are getting out of this from people who are paying them £70 a month.

 

Yeah, after the next Prizefigher there is no more boxing on Sky for three weeks, if they cant get shows from their UK contracted promoters why dont they subcontract other UK or Irish promoters to put on some adhoc shows or buy in fights from overseas.

I have cancelled it. It is blatently obvious they have limited boxing now to a casual only fanbase i.e prizefighter. They have gone into F1 which is expensive and boxing has made way for it.

I have sacked em off mate, cant justify it as I said.

I just believe Primetime dont look out for the fans and the woman analogy I made will be relevant in times to come. Insider made a cracking point tbf but as it goes I am 100% positive the **** will hit the fan for the sport. The more diverse it goes the weaker it becomes.

Padman; your woman theory cracked me up. ( and it's true it is great to see Torres, Ronaldo, Suarez etc i do like watching them but it's also the reason we don't get as many top young English players through. Combine that with the number if games we play to suit tv and that's why we will bomb out of the Euros without a whimper this summer. Footy is great if you support one of the big 4 or 5 but not if you support anyone else or want to see England do well at a major tournement

 

TBH Pad I usually view the glass as "half full" on issues like this. I can remember when you had no option to watch fights like this other than to order a video cassette from the back pages of Boxing News for a tenner!ld

Although the sport isn't as popular as it was when BBC and ITV were involved, from a purely selfish point of view seince sattelite TV, streams (legal ones of course!), torrents etc I've never had access to so much boxing in my life.

 

First and foremost I am a fan of football at the highest level and enjoy watching talent pit their wits against the best so I am biased from that point of view. England pfft, the FA should have got Clough back in the day and should of got Redknapp now. Our coaching setup is what faults us mainly, Mandanda is the man to see about a proper debate about that, rate that lad v.highly.

You are the most level-headed guy mate and I do take heed of advice about this. But I care too much really. I pity us fans for catching the bug. I work in Pleck ABC with the kids showing them stuff and working on pads and it gets me really happy but when I think of the sport as a whole its ****ed. Period. Completely and utterly ****ed. Too many belts, too many lower divisions, too many promoters calling the shots, too many bent/dodgy or downright incompetent officials and too many ppv channels.

Primetime get the bullet for being part of what is wrong really hence the vitriol they get.

Coming on here and flogging a show most thought would be on sky and inclusive of monthly fee's is a kick in the bollocks aint it really mate.

 

"Too many belts" is my pet hate. They make the sport too hard to follow even for "proper" fans like us, never mind the general sports fan!

 

I remember Dan Rafael (fat wanker) on ringside when he said he wished boxing would go back to the days of just 4 belts cos it's so bad now.

WBC -Diamond, Silver, Emeritus, Champion in recess.
WBA - Super, Ordinary, Interim
And these 2 were/are the most respected. In Japan they only recognise these.

Then we got WBO,IBF ---> IBO----->WBF etc, sad ****ing state of affairs pal.

Promoters get in the way though. Like we never got Donaire v Darchinyan cos of G.Shaw for example.

The proliferation of belts happened largely because HBO paid more for "title" fights than it did for regular fights. Naturally, fighters want to call themselves champions, even if they're not, and get the extra money.

The issue for me with Primetime is that the cost of entry is very high for very little. But as Gaz says (and I've agreed with him many times on this), Sky have been raping boxing fans for a long time. It's largely down to them the sport did dwindle in popularity. Calzaghe was one their big names but no one knew him. Whack him on ITV and, within two fights, he's prominently featured on the backpages of newspapers for handling Lacy.

PT are basically marginalising fighters even more. Should Amir Khan be on PPV at all? No. It's purely ego-driven, but he certainly shouldn't be on a wee niche channel's PPV - it pretty much speaks to his level as a star.

Box Nation is a great idea. It really focuses on its market. Specialisation does marginalise the sport further, except for the fact it will encourage more casual boxing fans to maybe take a wider interest in the sport. Time will tell.

But overall, we've got much more access to the sport than we ever did. When I really got into boxing it was entirely because the fights were on ITV. The internet was still mostly dial-up, Sky cost a little less but showed very little, and international fights? You were dreaming!

It's all good, but PT's model is absolutely shocking, short-term business. Why bother using 5 just to sell a fairly weak product. They should commit to showing those fights on 5 too and use that to grow the audience.

 

That won't change though, so I guess he's aiming for a possible situation rather than a fantasy.

 

You totally missed the point there mate. My fault really cos I should of been more concise. On net at work and its slow as **** so rushed post.

Basically he means that the situation is so bad now that 4 belts seems great. Ideally 1 per division or even 2 if they got it on at least but 4 or more is pish.

WBC and WBA whom were considered the best are now the worst imo.

I forgot to mention the inter-continental belts as well which seem to be a way of avoiding the traditional route to a title i.e british and commonwealth then euro champs then for a world title.

The amount of straps is farcical, no other word for it.

Ask your man on the street who is cruiserweight champ is, they will look puzzled at what weight it is let alone the 5+ ****ing straps at the weight too. Wow, it really is ****ed. All we need is a few more ppv channels to further diversify things aye?

I spent £15 on ice cream yesterday. £15 for this fight, even if it was to be shown on a black and white SD broadcast is great value, relatively speaking.
