Prime Tyson vs prime Lewis who wins ?

Tyson wasn't just "raw power" though, a lot of the time it was the third or fouth punch in a combo that would drop the opponent.

 

Holyfield fought them both and said Tyson would beat Lewis in 2002.

How did that work out?

 

Tyson was shot to bits in that fight but still showed in the first 2 rounds of that fight that he could cause Lewis problems. A prime Tyson would knock out Lewis.

 

When are the primes? Lewis 1997-2000, Tyson 1987-1988?

 

That's not my point.

My point is, what Holyfield and Bruno say is irrelevant.

 

Mike Tyson's RAW power was overrated. Just like when Muhammad Ali slated George Foreman before the Rumble in the Jungle. Muhammad Ali stated that George Foreman hits hard, but not as hard as people give him credit for.

Lennox Lewis took punches off fighters with maybe more if not equal raw power as Mike Tyson. And then people are saying that, its the 3rd and 4th punch combinations that damaged Mike Tyson's opponents..? people are basically admitting that Mike Tyson only has a punchers chance against Lennox Lewis.

Lennox Lewis can ether outbox, man handle, frustrate, Mike Tyson over 12 rounds.

Or whatever mood he is in, beat him down and knock him out.

Mike Tyson stylistically was the easiest fight for Lennox Lewis, out of Holyfield & Bowe.

 

Why is that? Saying that Lewis beat fighters with more raw power than Tyson is misleading because Tyson could apply his power a lot better and more consistently than most (all?) of the "punchers" that Lewis fought.

Thats not admitting that Tyson only had a punchers chance against Lewis.

Listen to Tyson being interviewed post Lewis. A sober Tyson admitted that even in his prime he did not have the tools to deal with The Lion. And 2002 Lewis was arguably three to five years past his pomp...

 

I don't know about 5 years mate. Lewis aged very well in fighting terms, I think his fighting prime came later than his physical prime.

 

Some say he peaked with the Holyfield fights, I am a heretic and always believe as boring as it was, the Tua fight was Lennox's prime. Some mad men say Ruddock was his peak (He's British, and he is BAD!!!)... But that is giving Ray Leonard's cheerleader (aka Pepe Correa) too much credit.

 

My big memory of Correa is Angelo Dundee telling him to STFU during the Leonard-Hagler fight!:good

 

You cannot define Lennox Lewis's peak, that's how good he was. When you talk about boxing and fighters, and you start to resort to..? Oh but in his prime, he would..? Oh but if he was in his prime..?

That just goes to show, that these are lesser fighters!!! Lennox Lewis just like Muhammad Ali, just like Evander Holfyeild, even out of their physical prime, probably achived their best results, and fought their best fight technically.

Lennox Lewis in his prime was avoided, in his total prime was a avioded fighter. FACT!

But still he dominated, when he was given his well earned chance.

 

You clearly do not remember the scene at the end of round 11 where Pepe gave his inspirational speech to get Ray though the 12th...

"Give me a S, give me a U, give me a G, give me an A, give me an R...."

Pepe told me himself, that was what won the Hagler fight for Leonard, as he put away his 'pom poms', eh... I mean Endswell!!!

 

I think Lewis would be in for a rough ride. Even in his prime, his opponents would have moments of success and Tyson knew how to maximize his opportunities.
