I like my champions to be champions...not punk out and keep the title. I wonder how many people consider Hopkins the champ, and how many consider the title vacant.
That's what's annoyed me. I used to believe Hopkins when he used to say........you wanna take it into the alley, fine, I wont complain to the referee if you wanna street fight. Insinuating that he would rather seek his own retributon without the help of the ref, yet there he was doing what he did against Roy Jones, and now this? Pure hypocrisy IMO. You cant be dirty, try to come off all gangsta, and act the way Hopkins has been.
Hopkins is probably the one fighter on ESB that I see gets the most praise and over hype one moment (when on top), then gets criticized and **** on the most when he is down.
Yup......that's the gist of it. Can't stand to see someone they couldn't understand winning being successful. BHOP however, unlike Bute, Calslappy, the K2, etc has obviously other detractors as well......I'm a 38 y/o whitey, spent my teens in a S Chitown gym, getting ZERO respect from brothers on the other side of Western Ave. It literally took them getting stomped by this almighty whitey to gain any respect. When I hear BHOP degrade whitey's it brings me back to those days and pisses me off, but I respect his abilities to the fullest inside the ring, and his work ethic and ability for a man of 46+ is an inspiration to middle age men across the planet. If he could just forget the hate he got from whitey or keep his mouth closed irt us whiteys, it might serve him well as far as broadening his fan base....then again, his legacy is written in stone, so it's not like he needs to give a **** about what us middle aged whitey's have to say anyways.
