france, rated as the worst side ever to play in a world cup final, nearly defeated hosts, new zealand, playing on home soil and were nearly upstaged.

despite missed goals that were obviously chokes, bad kicks that were also chokes, knock ons, and loosing all the stats, the nzers still managed to accidentally win.

france were the better side, a more deserving side, and played with the most passion. only fortuitous penalties in goal kicking range gave the blacks the win.

the real winners were france, who won the world crowd with their wholehearted effort. the all blacks won by one point.
