Amateur boxing experience is totally overrated. Half of them are ****ed, by the time they turn professional or..? They weren't that good to begin with.

For me, the going to America thing isn't about working with an American coach. It's about the whole experience. I'm surprised our high profile fighters don't get training camps over there behind them. I'm not suggesting they change their trainers, but Imagine how much a 4/6 week training stink would do somebody like Frankie Gavin? He could go over with Tibbs and Saunders, and I bet they'd love the amount of different styles they would come across. They'd no doubt pick up little tit bits from other coaches and I can't see how this could be anything but extremely beneficial.

I remember David Haye when he was at cruiser said he based his training camp in Miami because he's not seen anything like it here, young hungry cuban and american fighters going in and out the gyms all with something to prove.

I remember Bunce claiming that Khan would be better off work with Mick jelley instead of Roach after the Prescott loss!

It is a great experiance for any boxer who can work in the Wildcard for a year or two.

Dean Byrne sparred with Pacquiao, Ortiz, Khan and Benevidez amongst others.
Were else would he have got that type of experiance and sparring and even if Freddie was not his full time trainer it didnt matter he still would learnt things off him and had him in his corner for fights. He would have also been picking up on how these P4P champions train and live day in day out .

At the moment Jamie Kavanagh is sparring Pacquiao for his rubber match with JMM that must be something else for a 21 year old from Dublin to be getting that type of experiance .You cant buy that, type of experiance, its an oppurtunity I wouldnt refuse if I had the talent thats for sure .

I think someone like Frankie Gavin would really flourish in America as he has the American style of fighting imo and would be much more appreciated out there .

Alot of casual boxers are going to the Wild Card to train. Big ****ing deal. Ulnless you are having 1 on one sessions with Roach and sparring the top fighters there so yourself a ****ing favor and save the ****ing trip. No your not being trained by Roach you are hitting the bag in a corner u ****er.

Yep that all sounds great but if you are just getting smashed up in sparring what are you learning? your just cannon fodder to help the top guys.

To see how the guys train and live etc is good experience but thats not just in the US that's everywhere.

Got back from LA few weeks back, and made a visit to wildcard gym with mates

**** me its soooooooo tiny! Knew it was tiny but until you get there didn't realise how tiny the gym was. Unfortunetely freddie wasn't there when I went but I met his brother pepper and he is truely the nicest guy you could wish to meet. Took me on the pads for 5 minutes, said I had skills that wouldn't pay the bills... There a guy who cleans the gym there and he sleeps there on the night I believe.

However unless you are an elite fighter I wouldn't recomend training there as due to its small size it would be doubtful you would get the attention you would need.
