Ottke was an excellent boxer with great footwork. His weakness was a lack of power. He also stayed in the amateurs far too long. Some spastic in another thread said he had a lack of talent :roflatsch. ******s who go on about Ottke's controversial decisions have obviously never seen the fights. Even that fat clown Steve Bunce does it. It's time Team Elite and The Chincheckers put a permanent end to the nonsense. Conversely, mindless Toney nuthuggers instinctively claim he won every gift decision clearly and was robbed in his close losses. Posts like Cash718's can be disregarded. Just embarrassing.
Toney actually fought significant fights and was highly rated and respected as a great fighter all throughout his pro career. The only thing against him is he was twice busted using steroids. Ottke was never rated a great fighter or seen as an elite level guy. He was considered a decent/good boxer who fought only out of Germany and because of this received a few hometown decisions for some of his best wins. He was just another euro-level fighter with a belt, and was considered a 2nd or 3rd tier champion in the same division as Calzaghe when he was fighting. You cannot convince us retrospectively that he was a great fighter or had a HoF worthy career. Many of us saw him as a bit of a joke with the robberies and how he unashamedly had no desire to fight a Calzaghe or a Kessler, the type of fights which would've proven whether he was just good, or great. The guy knew his limits and that's why those type of fights never happened for him.
I have only seen little bits of Ottke kind of reminded me of Malinaggi good jab and footwork but just had zero power i guess fights would seem like robberies cause one guy doesnt have dramatic power even when he could very well be boxing the other guy apart any way as far as in a fight Ottke was very mobile and wouldnt play into Toney hands by following Toney to the ropes and letting Toney duck and counter hed force Toney to come out of his element but I think Toney had the accuracy and power to do some damage and while Ottke fought many fighters i dont think he fought anybody on Tonys level Legacy wise tough call Ottke unbeaten and Toney lost a few and also got a gift or two but they are totally different career wise Ottke unified and racked up defenses over a long title reign Toney never stayed in one place for very long he was a weight jumper mostly because he had no discipline to make weight properly that said he did get titles at 3 weights 160, 168 and cruiser and then cheated himself at heavy atleast in my eyes his heavyweight has tarnished him a lot in my eyes cheating twice getting fat talking **** losing to Peter
Robin Reid was warned by the referee for punching Ottke. One of the most farcical refereeing I've seen. Ottke in Germany was full of corruption.
this is a team elite lynchpin delivering a violent mauling to delusional james toney nuthuggery :deal
