Ward's resume is Kessler, that's it. Not saying its not a good win, its better than any single win of Bute, but you cannot say Ward faced better opposition.

On opposition (not counting winning) Bika, Johnson and Miranda have better than most of SMW if not all of them. So opposition dont means anything.

On resume (opposition and winning) Bute is up there with the best of the division. He didnt face the "best" yet, but the "best" (Ward, Froch) are tied up for 2 years now and Kessler choose another route.

im not a bute hater he IS IN THE TOP 3 but he's not #1 until he beats the super six winner or kessler to suggests otherwise is just speculation. can he beat all of them and become #1?? yes he's got the skills and power, all im saying is that he hasn't faced the strongest of opposition and doesn't deserve #1 status above other fighters at the weight

if ward beats froch (which i think he will sadly froch vs bute is the better fight for me) then i would want bute to knock ward the **** out. all this #1 stuff is premature

 

People tend to forgot how Jeff Lacy was hyped by most of the boxing world and was seen as the next big thing in the supermiddleweight division before taking on Joe Calzaghe. Calzaghe dismantled him in a shutout win and the rest is history...Lacy would never be the same after that.

 

Sorry if I didnt understand what you wrote then. Most of Bute's fans dont rate him no.1 yet. But when I see people rating Direll above Bute I get a little mad. lol
