Donaire is the no1 BW but haven't cleaned house to call himself World BW Champ yet

    Bantamweight is packed. Goddamn packed with talent and as big a Nishioka fan as I am - and would pay hard cash for the Donaire fight - Nonito is not quite World BW Champion just yet, there's work to be done in one of the most packed division in boxing. Heart says Nishioka should come next, but head says clean house 118 first, here are the top dudes:

    Joseph Agbeko - difficult, awkward, high IQ style, good power, excellent counters, very good beard - if he beats Mares and wins the big BW tourney, Donaire can't call him the Legitimate Champ, and frankly, as good as Montiel and Narvaez were, they never were career BWs, Agbeko is.
    - Donaire by difficult close unanimous decision

    Abner Mares - likewise: if he beats Agbeko, this skilled boxer-puncher is a clear threat to Donaire's no1 position, and as such, Nonito should deal with that thread. The style however plays into the Filipino Flash's hands.
    - Donaire by late TKO in a heated fight

    Chemito Moreno - the most underrated fighter in the division brings a fast, slick boxing style, although not too much power. Beating Rojas, Sidorenko, Monshipour, Cermeno and Parra, all former top world champions makes him someone that can't be overlooked for legitmate divisional glory, and frankly, he deserves a chance to prove himself.
    - Donaire by competitive unanimous decision

    Vic Darchinyan - the former flyweight and World SFW Champion held on his own very well vs. Mares, could've got the decision, still packs a good punch, but isn't really a career bantamweight and is still at a style disadvantage vs. Donaire. However working off the jab like vs. Mijares and keeping it calm, collected, like vs. Arce, and I say he goes the distance and has a chance catching Donaire somewhere down the stretch. He can be a good awkward boxed when he wants to.
    - Donaire by wide unanimous decision

    Koki Kameda - Koki Kameda!!! The Devon Alexander of the BW division can be outfoxed like Wonjongkam did but is pretty good behind the fast 1-2. Donaire's footspeed however makes the Filipino a fast moving target enough not to be effective with that 1-2, and Kameda is not busy or defensively good enough to hold Ninito off.
    - Donaire by mid-fight TKO


    I say any of these fights is a legit one at bantamweight, particularly the tournament winner and Moreno, and as much as I'd like to see Donaire at 122 - like Nonito himself - he has work left at the busy BW division - a lot of work!

    Well I agree with most outcomes with the difference that
    a) I don't think a Vic "tim" Darchinyan rematch is necessary
    b) I guess it would end about the same (Noni by mid round TKO)

    Yeah, I never have understood the demand for Darchinyan rematch. :conf

    It's unfortunate that Agbeko-Mares wasn't settled properly the first time. Donaire could have headed straight into that unification whilst he can still make the weight.

    But personally, I wanna' see him jump up straight away.

    Donaire already has weight problem. Let him move up, why wait for them?

    Whoever is the best at 118 struggled with the likes of Darchinyan and Montiel. Even Mares fought a close fight with Darchinyan. Donaire made Darchinyan look like a class below and he was not past his prime as proven by his fights after.

    He can't make weight anymore. If they can move up, then the fight can happen.

    Donaire has so much talent around the division that he could fight that he could become an atg if he beats them all.

    he had said in the past he wanted to do this, but now he says he's having troubles making weight... he said his next fight WILL be at 122 at the Narvaez post fight interview...

    i would tend to believe the guy who's 5'7" at a 118lb division....

    If Donaire gonna clean up bantam it gonna take years before he can move up
    If the rivals want to fight him they should move up to SBW !

    Darchinian is past it.

    Yes, the best thing for him is to move up but not too far yet. Become a decent name before you risk it. Moving up will answer how much power he really has. He once said he would be stronger if he moved up. I remember when Darchinyan was a monster at 112 and KOing people left and right like the "Abraham" of the division. While still a puncher, 118 guys take his punches alot better and it showed where he is lacking in skills when forced to out fight or outbox someone.

    donaire would most likely move up and fight nishioka or arce next. arce is calling him out. though i would like him to stay for one more fight and fight any of the guys you listed but if he has problem making 118 then it would be best to move up to jr. featherweight.

    one misnomer about losing power while moving up is... the level competition fought vs original weight.

    Analysts gotta track the level of competition a fighter has fought, at the weightclass he was at originally, and as he moves up. Some of the times, a fighter moves up in class because the lack of remaining competition. On the move up, he ends up focusing on high B to A caliber fighters if he was a titlist before. This will generally cause the KO ratio to taper off.

    Not always because of a move up in weight, but the caliber of opponents too...

    im up for Arce anything.... he is the anti-Narvaez....
    though decently diminished, he'd bring the fight to Donaire and probably give him his best challenge....

    Hmm the only ones at 118 I'd like to see him fight is winner of Mares/Agbeko. At 122 there's alot of names waiting. Winner of Rigo/Ramos, SKN, Arce, Vazquez Jr, Quigg, Kratingdaenggym, Mjares etc.
    IMO all of these stand a better chance against Donaire than the guys at 118 does. Would love to see Moreno vs Darchinyan though. Would be very interesting.
