That's in good quality, nice find. You don't see the telling KO blow, but not sure I want to.

 

Vingo was 6'4" tall. Only 20 years old at the time. He had a lot of potential, a big young powerful man. Would have been interesting to see if he would have gone on to make a splash on the world class scene had Marciano not ended his career. Some reports said Vingo wasn't really into boxing and probably would have quit, but many reports I've read spoke very highly of Vingo's potential.

 

Oh what memory's this clip evokes for me. As posted before I and my dad had great seats for that fight sitting in the side balcony, first row over the ring. Dec,30,1949
in MSG we watched a slugfest between the out of town Rocky Marciano,and the great Bronx prospect Carmine Vingo, whom I saw on our small tv ko some guys. Carmine was a hot prospect of that time. He was tall, strong and could hit, but Marciano,after surving a powerful uppercut almost lifting Marciano off the floor,shook it off and proceeded to give a horrendous beating until the 6th round when Vingo sunk to the floor,unconscious whith his foot twitching on the canvass. The medics came and took poor Carmine to Polyclinic Hospital across the street from MSG, where they saved his life. After a long time in the hospital Vingo was released,walking with a cane. We in the crowd were sad to see Vingo so badly hurt, but we KNEW we had a coming champion in this tough puncher from Brockton, Mass. I can never ever forget that night...
P.S. Don't ever underestimate Rocky Marciano. He was the real goods...

 

Is it confirmed that a full length color film of this bout exists?

 

Vingos legs looked quite thick.

 

Has anyone in boxing ever confirmed that that film is for real?

I would say so. burt would be the one to ask. marciano wore black shorts with a red stripe for that fight - as shown here. It is marciano at least.

 

Yes C, the film is REAL. Probably filmed by a fan in the audience,explaining the poor quality of the film. I was sitting square over the ring then, and recognize Marciano and tall Vingo. I also vividly recall Vingo on the canvas
terribly hurt and being surrounded by several people. We were thinking
in the audience of another Ernie Schaaf tragedy,and I recall a hush and quiet amongst all of us,until medics took Vingo to the Polyclinic Hospital across the street from MSG.
I would love to see the camera showing me and my dad in the audience,so many, many years ago... But time marches on...

 

I doubt you could forget something like that MR b. would have stood out. amazing you were there in the old garden. then as now I bet you can picture what you saw from the angle you saw it from. I know I can from the fights i have seen. You come home from the fights and re watch it on TV and its diffrent.

Yes C, I had great seats in the side balcony over the ring.My dad and I would get tickets to the Friday fights way in advance,hence the great close seats. Can still remember the silence of the crowd. EEry but respectful. we were so happy to hear later on that Vingo survived that horrendous beating,but at a great price...Cheers...

I don't doubt the short clip posted above is real, but has anyone confirmed that a longer version exists?
