So Boxnation has been showing loads of fights recently, some great, some dire. But their schedules are still rammed full of repeats all week, and the only real support programme on top is the Bunce Hour. It's grand, mind, but I just think a channel dedicated to boxing should have some extra programming on top-ideally something new Monday-Thursday, with the live fights on Friday and Saturday. Using the Bunce Hour as covering one of these nights, what would people on here like to see on top of what we already have? I've got a few ideas... 1. A daily news programme It probably only needs to be 15 minutes, in a similar style to how they do on the Hatton website. Pretty standard really, any developments, contract signings, press conferences etc. mentioned. 2. A boxing discussion show Once a week, get a few boxing personalities (fighters and journalists) together for an hour sat round a table discussing whatever issues the sport are facing. A bit like a cross between an extended version of those bits they do on Ringside, and the Between the Lines programme on ESPN. But not at all like the Bunce hour. 3. Top 10/Countdown style shows Nabbed this idea from the sport-specific channels they have in the States. Basically countdowns of for example 'Top 10 Heavyweight title fights' or 'Top 10 Calzaghe fights' etc. Obviously you might have a problem with footage for certain bouts, but you could use the old trick of still images interspered with some talking heads. 4. A Monday night analysis programme My favourite idea of the four. Every monday night, get 2 or 3 ex-boxers to analyse the weekend's fights from boxnation-but properly. Do it down a gym, with shadow boxing in the ring to demonstrate points-a'la that thing Ringside did before Haye v Klitschko. How they think the fight was won etc. Splash some cash on a telestrator to make some points. Everybody loves writing on the screen. I've taken the ideas from an article on my new blog around sports broadcasting at http://tellysports.wordpress.com Hopefully I'll stick another article up there next week with a few of the suggestions from here. So what do people think? Or are support programmes not that important and you'd rather see more live fights?
Yeah, some decent ideas, I like the show that Marquez does where he analyzes his performance in fights and walks you through what was happening. Getting a boxer on to do this once a week or even fortnightly/monthly would be good imo.
So many programs could be made. There must be so many producers out there who want a break. Their production team at the moment must be quite poor judging by the backgrounds, graphics etc Teach GPater or Gator or Gorrilaz Productions how to use the software and he could easily make a quality looking top 10 program. Throw Bunces voice over it and its a wrap.
The list of experienced tv producers in the boxing business who could just casually track down Big Josh or Greaves or Groves and know anything about them is very, very small. Trust me. There are a few at SKY and the other one is at BoxNation. Adios.
I reckon something that gives more insight into training, excersises or follow a fighter in taining camp.
a sunday supplement style show. 3-4 journos discussing fight results, upcoming fights and general boxing stuff. A week in the life show. Wouldnt mind seeing a documentary on promoters like fwank.
Sunday Supplement would be a great idea :good A fanzone type idea would be good too - I'm not talking about commentary on the red button, more along the lines of the Monday night football show that Ian Payne used to do on Sky Sports. Back when deluded Spurs fans were wanting their manager sacked every week and Johnny Jackson in the England squad. Must be a while ago now
In the initial press conference or maybe an early press release, they said that they would be filling the time with alot of archive footage. I know we currently get some of frankspromotions but it was said that it would include fights by the likes of Tyson, Leonard etc. I know we've probably all seen these kind of fights but if they were able to get hold of these then surely they must be able to get access to others that would be of interest. They could dedicate a week to a certain fighter and show a different fight each night. Culminating in an in depth documentary at the weekend. Give exposure to great fighters from the past who maybe don't get the recognition they deserve.
I think a problem is that the journalists are generally pretty dull speakers with exception of Buncey and Lillis. But then again I hate the football Sunday Supplement as well.
as long as you have the two of them it will be livley. Bunce tends to take over though. Steve Lillis, Tris Dixon, Jeff Powell, Ron Lewis, Glynn Leach, Terry Dooley.
Steve could always host it? Could always have an American journo on now and again to give the news from Stateside. The more I think about it a ''fan's forum'' would really be a good idea. Edit - Gaz is right, Powell is a ****ing nut. Kevin Mitchell is usually a good read, not sure where he's at with boxing though.
