This was an important fight for Charles. Win, and he gets a title shot. Lose, and he gets eliminated. He was facing top 10 ranked young powerful Bob Satterfield, fresh off a 1 round knockout victory over Bob Baker.

I think this was an unbelievable execution by charles, the way he set up that trap. I also thought he showed a lot of savvy fending off Satterfield in the 1st round, he was clearly very buzzed.

I can only imagine how amazing some of the knockouts he might have produced in his prime looked like(1946-1948)

Charles knockout of Archie Moore in 1948 was supposedly immortal like..Moore had Charles on the brink of a knockout, and as Moore's coming in to finished off charles, catches moore with a big right hand and knocks him out cold!

the satterfeild win was a better win than any of charles's title defences. He was a bit stale in the barone fight by all acounts.

Nobody is going to tell me the satterfeild win was not executed by anything but a world class fighter.

You're having a laugh. Jersey Joe Walcott? Joe Louis?

    thats for sure.
HOWEVER, satterfeild was still better than charles's chalengers like lee oma, nick barone, pat valentino, freddie beshore and at least an equal threat to the HW title as maxim and lesnavich ever were.

Maxim beat Satterfield, Oma went 1-1 with him. In Satterfield's win over Oma, he was all but knocked out in the 5th with Oma rushing in for the finish, when a desperate wild swing from Satterfield connected and knocked Oma out.

Did charles beat joe louis and walcott as emphaticaly as he beat satterfeild? I was talking about impresive to watch not impresive on paper.

If charles had of knocked out walcott and louis out he would have set the world alight.

he did. on points. I said satterfeild was an equal threat to the HW title as maxim was. In light of satterfeilds baker win could you even dispute this?

so oma is better than satterfeild? That would make a great poll.

If a two fighters are 1-1 most people pick the guy who won by KO as the superior.
