10 real defences others are for meaningless Wbogus belt when it wasnt major title.
Still impressive feat he is tied with Tyson in total title defences

Yeah i have the same opinion. The Haye fight showed that his speed and reflexes are still very impressive and i expect he can maintain that for at least another 2 years but at age 38 and beyond he'll have to take each fight as it comes and when they start to go should retire. He isn't Vitali. His healthy lifestyle, discipline, and being in shape year round should hopefully help maintain them for quite a while.

lol not recognizing the WBO give me a break. Byrd was the most highly regarded belt holder and those defenses count.

edit - my bad i got the WBO and IBF confused and thought you didn't count the defenses post Byrd II. 10 is correct, i thought the post Byrd defenses was more than that .

I'd only count his defences post byrd 2 as before that there really wasn't any disputing that lewis was the real champ.

If we want consistency just look at his defences since being the number 1 hw

If Volodymyr were to fight 4x a year from 2012-14 he would have 23 title defenses. 5x a year 26 title defenses. He only fought once in 2009 and 2x in 2011 but that was largely due to diva gaye and ***** povetkin. If him and his team commit to fighting 4 times a year, get serious and aggressive with their matchmaking to ensure he has opponents he could really do something with his legacy.

They cant make him 4 or 5 matches in year, while Vitali is active.
Three is absolute max. Two is more likely.

Also Wlad is starting to get more injury prone, so could hes body even handle 5 training camps in year

What are you implying? Wlad has been #1 for the entirety of his current reign, if there was only one championship he would have still been the champion. I think Wlad can keep going until he's 40, that's my prediction.

Can't knock the guy for continuing to win, but I reckon there are at least 30 HWs through history that would have at least equalled his record, had they fought the same opponents.

Right, but that's the trouble in any era... if Lewis had Louis' opponents, he would have taken that record without any trouble

Agreed - but surely, remaining champ for all those years doesn't really mean anything, when your toughest opponent was Sam Peter

Sure it does... certainly if you dominate.
    Again a Lewis example.
He lost twice (by early KO) against opponents that weren't close to his own class. With his opponents (save Holy and Vitali) he should have had a huge run, but he didn't.

He may indeed go on to become the second longest reigning HW Champion, but Larry Holmes would have SKOOLED Klitschko, like he was his Teacher!

Heavyweight division is in a Deplorable state!

He could do it now if he was fighting opposition the quality that Louis was.

Wlad could take a year, fight every month against handpicked guys ranked below 20 and have a field day.

Instead he's cleaning out the division from the top down.

How can you say Holmes would beat Wladimir so easy when He had trouble with Cooney?
Wlad is light-years ahead of Jerry Cooney in ever way!

Holmes went 13 with Jerry and even lost some rounds.

And actually Cooney only went down because of the 115 degree heat in the ring that night. It was nothing Holmes was doing cause He was only throwing the jab a little when Cooney fell into the ropes....
