If it is easy to use PEDS in boxing, why are we not seeing many superboxers?

Of course there are many reasons.
    1) There actually are many guys that want to be fair in sports. (seriously!)
    2) PEDs are expensive and not anyone knows where to get them. For the lower ranked boxers they are probably too expensive.
    3) The peds that boxers have the most benefit from (steroids) are detectable with the crappy testing methods in boxing, they have to take long periods off to flush them out of their system.
    4) Fear to be caught anyway. Although the punishment after being caught in boxing is like a slap on the wrist, they probably fear for their reputation.
    5) Fear for the known side effects...

There probably are more reasons, but that's what I can come up with.

:deal ped's dont make you a better boxer, they can make you a better athlete and most boxers don't use them because it's morally wrong and i think most boxers are well aware of the side affects.

If everyone is on them, is there really any advantage? It would put everyone right back on the same level, would it not? They will not improve your skills magically, those are honed in the gym over many years.

Boxers have a better morality than any other athlete. I have a hard time believing that.

Because boxing is about skill not just athleticism. PEDS can enhance athleticism, but they don't suddenly give you skills. Therefore you might see better athletes, but you're not suddenly going to see more skilled fighters.

    - You might take steroids to get bigger or stronger, but it only means your going to gain weight then have to move up a weight class and fight men who are equally as big and strong as you.

    - You might take something like EPO to increase your stamina, but that's only going to help you outlast an equally skilled opponent. If you're opponent is better than you then you're still going to get your ass kicked about the ring.

The only thing PEDs are going to do is give you an advantage in stamina, or help you gain muscle mass to jump weights. Therefore you might get victories that you otherwise would not, like making advantage of your illicit stamina to outlast a more skilled opponent - but it's not going to turn fighters into supermen

    :deal

I'm willing to bet that the sport is absolutely rife with PEDS of one sort of another.

well does every athlete in the Olympics or other sports take ped's no, if someone came into our gym admitting that he's on ped's he'll get told to **** off and find somewhere else.

    1. how do you know this?
There have always been people that are more honest as others.
Why do some people who find a wallet take out the money and others bring it to the nearby policestation?! It's just the kind of person you are.

    2. do you know where to get them? EDIT: how much is ped? is ped more expensive than floyd's osdt?
I dunno where... How should I know? I heard about cyclists (who were caught) that paid as much as €50.000 for a high end blood transfusion... don't know if those are regular prices, but that's a lot of money
    3. can you describe more how steroids help the boxers more? you did not mention steroids in your prev post. was vargas and mosley on steroids?
Steriods are PEDs that build up and strengthen muscles... not hard to figure out how that benefits boxers.
    4. is this related to number 1? i have the impression that the peds are rampant in boxing (from different threads, someone already reasoned out that its been used since the 60's and 70's) and that the current test is inadequate that is why not many are caught. since you are saying fear is the actual reason, many dont use peds, and that if they do, the best peds to use is steroids that stays longer in the system, which makes it easy to catch. then, with this in mind, do you think you still need osdt? are you a proponent of floyd's osdt?
Steroids have been in all kinds of sports for many years... if we should be able to retest the '88 Olympic 100m finalists with todays knowledge, not 1 but at least 6 guys probably would have tested positive... (actually 1 of the finalist admitted that later).
And yes I'm someone who wants to see OSDT in boxing, but "REAL" OSDT, not Floyd's kind because that also doesn't work.

5.what are the side effects and do you know of current boxer/s that exhibit these side efftects?[/quote]
Most commenly known are behavior changes, heart failure (you don't tire while your heart can't keep up) and becoming (don't know if actually true) impotent.

This has got to be the most loaded dumb question there is.. A ham and egger fighter is not going to become an elite fighter over night using roid but he may beat the crap out of other ham and eggers.

When you have an elite fighter taking peds, then the performance enhance by leaps and bounds. peds would help an elite fighter who is on the down slide due to age and wars , peds could help that fighter rejuvenate physical skill that would have diminished .. Or fighter moving up in weight , ped would help them gain muscle and depending on the type of work out and diet, the fighter would also be able to retain of increase physical attributes while moving up in weight. It can also give a fighter speed and strength they may not have had in the past..

in short ped can improve performance not skill,, turns tomato cans into solid cans making a good fighter better and an elite fighter super elite .. ether way its cheating ..

K2 are both pretty super in the context of their time...
Manny and Floyd are super in the context of their time...
As examples...of "super" boxers, that doesn't mean they are "super" boxers, but they don't lose and don't look as though they will lose for a long time...if ever.

there can only ever be a few elite boxers, otherwise they are not elite. the 20th best boxer in a weight class isnt going to be considered elite, because he will lose to the better boxers

when did i say that they are rampant?? is it a problem in boxing yes, rampant i wouldn't say so but it shouldn't matter how many people use them 1 or 2 is too many IT'S CHEATING. yes i would say that the boxers I'VE met and trained with are less likely to take peds than other sports. i know people who do kickboxing, mma and even play sunday league football that take peds or have admitted to using them before.
if you dont think that the test are way behind the rest of the sports world then go give your head a shake. like one of the other poster's has already stated there are different prices for peds some are revertivtly cheap and easy to detect, hence the reason for not taking them these would be the ped's that 99% of boxers could afford and some are extremely expensive, why? because the drug cheats are always trying to stay one step ahead and coming up with new ways to go undetected. thats why in sports such as cycling they are always coming up with new test's just to keep up with the cheats never mind stamp it out for good.
