You don't see the possibility that Rocky sustains facial damage that results in a tko for Jack?

I got to shade towards the Rock via a grueling 15Rd. majority decision with neither resembling anything remotely Human afterwards.

I'm with you Burt. I can see all the old-timers back in the day laughing at this result.

When I was a kid, late 1950's early 1960's, the experts had Dempsey as #1 by a wide margin, as time went on, Louis took that over and now most feel that Ali is.

In 1950, the Associated Press conducted a poll of sportswriters to name the greatest fighter of all-time, [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pound_for_pound"]pound-for-pound[/ame], and Dempsey was the runaway winner, collecting 251 votes. [Joe Louis finished a distant second with 104 votes; Henry Armstrong was third with 16.]

Note: the article below has Dempsey with 253 Louis 109 and Armstrong with 13, BUT I have 251, 104 and 16.

He was also voted 3rd, behind Jim Thorpe and Babe Ruth, as the Greatest male athlete in the 1st half century.

In the Dec 1962 Ring magazine [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Dempsey"]Jack Dempsey[/ame] was rated #1, and Joe Louis #2, Jack Johnson #3 and Marciano was a distant #6.

In 1991, [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bert_Sugar"]Bert Sugar[/ame] had Dempsey the top Heavyweight of all-times, now he has him at #3, behind Louis and Ali.

One thing I learned from Bert Sugar, and that is to listen to the old-timers, because they have a lot of knowledge. I talked to Ray Arcel and he had Dempsey rated very high as well.

No way Dempsey takes punishment from Marciano for 14 rounds of war. :patsch

Is this the Dempsey who was sparked out cold for 30 seconds by 35-19-16 Jim Flynn?

Or is it the mythical Dempsey with the iron chin?

Rocky had incredible P4P power & strength, & i bet he hit with more wallop than part-time boxer Fireman Jim.

Thanks Henry. Not to beat this thread to death. But I read so often during Marciano's reign, the question "who would win at their best,Jack Dempsey
or Rocky Marciano "? Every time the question was posed to top boxing figures who were old enough to have seen prime Dempsey, and of course Marciano, invariably answered Jack Dempsey. When asked why, they would cite Dempsey's much greater handspeed would get their first, and Marciano
would be hit, hurt and kod. These people saw both fighters at their best and almost without exception, picked Dempsey over the extremly POPULAR
Marciano. Henry, I saw and loved Rocky, but he was wild with his punches and Demposey in close was a fast murderous puncher, who incidentally
never CUT on his face. How can I not adhere to the opinions of these boxing experts who were THERE,and chose Dempsey ? Cheers Henry...:good

Exactly what I have been saying!

The real experts that saw them both, are rolling over in there graves with this outcome.

All good and well, but not many people who saw Dempsey in their 20's and 30's are going to vote for a fighter they saw in their 50's/60's.

I voted for Marciano, I see he's pulling ahead even further. A rightful winner!

What happened to the previous Marciano vs Louis final? Been away for a few days.

I take Marciano in a close one. Both men's crouching and bob and weave defenses might well negate the offenses of the other.

There have been many times over the years that the boxing experts have voted on this, and I honestly can't remember once that Rocky came out on top.

Like Burt and I have stated before, the opinions of these boxing experts who were THERE, all chose Dempsey, and that is a fact.
