Saved by the bell means the fighter cannot be on the ground and win. He has to stand up. Nothing more. That's why as soon as he stands up, the fight is over and the bell rings.

Asking a fighter to walk to him is one of the things a ref can do to evaluate if the fighter is ble to continue. It is not an obligation. Anyway, it doesn't apply to the 12th round.

Saved by the bell mean, that after the 4 seconds that was left of the fight, while Bute was down, the bell would have ring and the fight over. Thats not what happened. Bute got up and then it was over.

You're subborn but it doesn't make your point true. The fight was over way before he was leaning on the ropes. As soon as his gloves cleaned the mat.

You're absolutely wrong. The fighter has to be able to stand on his own power, which Bute DID NOT do. The ref is supposed to ask the fighter to walk to him BEFORE continuing the fight. THEN the bell rings.

At the beginning of the fight, the rules are announced as UNIFIED rules.

From the ABCs unified rules for referees-

    ----------------------------------------------
    23. KNOCKDOWNS AT THE BELL

The bell ending the round should not be sounded by the Timekeeper during a count. In the event that a knockdown occurs at the end of the round and the bell rings, the Referee will disregard the sounding of the bell and continue his mandatory count.

The Timekeeper will ring the bell after the count and the Referee’s evaluation. The boxers are to receive a full one-minute rest period immediately after these situations.

    ----

The timekeeper will ring the bell AFTER THE COUNT AND THE REFEREES EVALUATION.

----- Also from the same rules (regarding refs eval)----

    KNOCKDOWN MECHANICS

    1. Command “Down!”

    2. Motion the scoring boxer to the furthest neutral corner.

    3. Pick up the count from the Timekeeper/Knockdown Judge.
Ø Position yourself so that you can focus on the downed boxer, the other boxer, and the Timekeeper/Knockdown Judge.

    4. Count aloud and succinctly while gesticulating with your hands the numbers of the count.
Ø While counting, concentrate on the downed boxer and look for signs of weakness such as position of the eyes, glassy stare, dilation of pupils, lack of steady equilibrium, bad cuts or bleeding, etc.
Ø Do not over concentrate on the scoring boxer in the neutral corner unless he or she exits the corner and forces you to stop the count.
Ø Use both hands when counting six through ten.
Ø Position your hands in line with the boxer’s eyes. Do not fan, wave, etc. your hands.
Ø Do not demonstrate excessive emotion. In other words, do not over dramatize the knockdown.

    5. At the count of eight or nine, ask the downed boxer if he or she can continue and have him
    take one step towards you.
Ø Don’t be so close to the boxer. Stand about one arm’s length from him. Don’t touch the boxer or let the boxer touch you.
    Ø Render your critical decision.
Ø If he or she can continue, wipe their gloves.
Ø Wipe the gloves AFTER the boxer takes a step towards you not before.

    6. Have boxing resume immediately.

    -----

Bute lost.Rule 5 is what you guys are missing. See Chavez/Meldrick Taylor.

True, except that the ref allowed Bute to do so.

I posted the rules. Plain as day.

By the way, I would have been pisted, but when Bute womble around, the ref could have stop it.

But I dont think Andrade got robbed. The same GBP than Hopkins are with Andrade and if there was that much of a robbed they would have made complains and in the rematch, they won the purse bid and they came back in canada... must means something.

Thats from the Association of Boxing Committees friend.
Referee procedure. Ref clearly didn't follow it.
Before the fight, the rules are announced as UNIFIED IBF and ABC rules. ABC rules are clear as day. IBF doesn't trump the Association of Boxing Committees. The rules stated in the IBF rules that have been posted are not unified rules to my knowledge.

And as I said, the rules were contested under UNIFIED IBF and ABC rules. The rule sited in the IBF rules, to my knowledge is not part of any unified set of rules. Thats an IBF specific rule.

You realize it was an IBF title fight? There are no unified IBF rules. There are IBF rules and the Unified Boxing Association rules. Both were followed as said by the commentating team before the introductions.
This has been argued every second month on this forum since the fight. Check the previous threads.

If you want to find somewhere where the bout should have been stopped, you have to look earlier when Bute was falling around like a drunken sailor. But only the ref can stop the fight. It is his discretion. You can disagree with him if you wish.

I do. It was also said at the beginning of the fight that it was fought under IBF/ABC unified rules.

You're missing the part that I pointed out people are missing. The ref has to make the fighter walk to him under his own power. The ref CLEARLY, seriously you can't miss it, CLEARLY did not do this and restarted the fight. Which is when the timekeeper rang the bell. Bute was using the ropes to stand and the ref walked to Bute (WRONG!) to wipe his gloves. Thats why the bell didn't ring as soon as Bute stood like this stupid organization rule that everyone is siting says, because thats not how its done under UNIFIED RULES.

No where in anyset of rules does it say that the ref should consult with the clock to decide whether theres enough time for the fighter to be hurt. He has to be able to fight immediately, no matter what round.

The timekeeper does not resume time until the ref restarts the action under any circumstances and the ref did not do so following proper procedure.

And to add, both sets of rules state that no fighter can be saved by the bell. Ref procedure is universal. The timekeeper doesn't resume time until the ref says so, and the ref said so when Bute was clearly unfit to fight.

Yes, Bute was up. No one debates that. He was not up on his own power and ready to fight. The ref should not have restarted the fight.
