Haye was actually on the verge of stopping Wlad on a couple of occasions, whereas Cooper only gets credit for supposedly knocking down Ali, when the replay clearly shows it was a push/slip.

Also let's not forget the cheating aspect. Haye had to overcome Wlad continually pushing him to the canvas (out of desperation due to being hurt), whilst Cooper balatantly ripped Ali's glove with his face (and got away with it!).

I remember that punch Haye almost threw at Wlad....****ing hell you could see it in his eyes that if he threw it he would almost have a chance of winning the round but he decided not to unfortunetly.

    WAR HAYE!!!

I do wonder just how Cooper would have coped with either Ruiz or Audley???

You are tripping and getting Cooper mixed up with Wepner.

Cooper cracked (then) Clay with a left hook and nearly sparked him. Ali was very, very rarely knocked down. In fact, IIRC it was only the greatest left hook in HW history (Frazier) that dropped him again.

Outside of twice fighting The Greatest HW of all time, Cooper faced Bugner, Folley, Bethea, London, Johansson, Patterson, Mildenberger.

I think European champion might have been a struggle for Haye against that level of competition.

Cooper was only abouit 13.5 stone at his peak, too small for the modern giants.

I agree. This is why I am not a fan of old fighter vs new fighter match ups in general, you would have to wonder how Cooper would have done if he had todays fitness, diet and trainers behind him (**** he probably would have never fought at heavy if he was here today).

I could still imagine Cooper at 13.5 being a decent match up for Ruiz and Audley....how would Ruiz and Audley matched up against Coopers foes?

The old v new fitness argument is complete horse****. Old timers had same day weigh ins, had to actually fight at the weight, wore smaller gloves and went 15 rounds (or more). Fitness was never an issue.

BTW...Flea is also talking horse****...if Dick Richardson could be European Champ, then so could Haye without a doubt.

Most high end journey men like Cooper face great competition. Now a fight I wouldn't mind seeing is Cooper vs Zack Page. If Coop doesn't get cut that one certainly goes the distance.
