Didn't see that mate! Yeah, incredible round especially considering how tired and battered both men are (Larry injured IIRC) I never score even rounds either :-( Really good fight that one. You seen Larry Vs Weaver?
Funny you should say that, I'm actually watching it right now :yep Weaver clearly a fair bit better than his record suggests, giving Holmes something to think about but not winning too many rounds.
Weaver hurt Larry quite a few times IIRC, really shows Larry's vunerability against a limited (somewhat) fighter. Its moments like this and other ones against Snipes and Shavers, that would lead me to believe a prime tyson vs prime Holmes matchup wouldnt be any different to their 1988 fight. tyson could bomb him out early.
A couple of Weaver right hands did stiffen Holmesy's legs. I do feel that with most of Larry's jabs landing clean he's taking most of the rounds though. I actually completely agree on the Tyson thing. I think him vs Mike is just a bad, bad style match up for Holmes. If Holmes is aggressive with Tyson (stands toe to toe like he did at times with Norton) then he gets tied up and nullified on the inside, then bombed out at some point. Tyson's just too fast, too powerful and far too dynamic on the inside to trade with Tyson. Alternatively, if Larry got on his bike (like he did against Shavers) then I still see him losing. That has never worked against Tyson. Tyrell Biggs, a capable and very fast fighter, attempted it (as did Tillis), but running from Tyson and flicking a jab out is not the way to beat him. If Holmes did it, he might have minimal success, but in the end he wouldn't be landing telling blows. Tyson would cut the ring off, chase Holmes down and savage him. I rate Holmes highly, H2H, there's plenty of fighters I reckon he'd beat but Tyson is not one of them.
Good points, and id agree with them. However if Holmes was physically strong enough to survive past the 6th round, it is fairly reasonable to suggest that Larry could get going his jab going and use his superior boxing skills, once Mike slows down. And Mike did slow down from the mid rounds onwards in some fights, even in his prime. thats a big if though I suppose. I dont think Holmes is as physically strong or tough as someone like Holyfield, and even if he did get past the 6th, its likely he would already have taken fierce shots from tyson and be drained himself.
Yep, good points. I reckon Larry's lack of physical strenght might be a big problem for him on the inside against Mike. Tyson was huge, and he could physically drain most fighters on the inside when he wrestled and jostled with them. Like you said, Holy was strong and skilled enough to get the better of Mike (albeit an older version), but Larry is not that good on the inside and is fairly light too. He could get worn out quickly.
Weaver hurt him :yep Walter McGowan Vs Jose Medel The great Scot makes his first serious foray into Bantamweight, against legendary lower weight puncher Jose Medal, who fought a who's who of great Flys and Bantams (who also handed Fighting Harada his first stoppage loss in devastating fashion) and was ranked highly when this fight took place, having already defeated Harada and Seki by K.O and lost in two fights against ATG Eder Jofre, once for the World Bantamweight title (he would fight for it again against Harada, but Masahiko would avenge the loss) McGowan was such a capable operator, but whilst he would hold his own against the far more skilled (in comparison to Medel) Rudkin (though deserved neither decision) against Medel he's in with a different kettle of fish. Unlike Rudkin, Medel hits too hard, so McGowans skillset can't even hold him in the fight. Heavily dropped in the first (never seen McGowan like that before) and his legs gone, McGowan tries to find his way into the fight in the 2nd, but even when he's in and out with shots Medal gets a say in the exchanges. Amazingly, it's the Mexican cut after a clash of heads Only have the 6th round after that; McGowan seems to be coming into it (apparently the only time he's been in control up to that point) but if you've seen the first Harada fight, you'll know how deadly Medel can be backed up against the ropes, and he catches McGowan with a booming right hand followed by a heavy swing of the left, and chases McGowan round the ring and bombards him. After going down twice, McGowan is spared further punishment, but he looked like he could've continued. McGowan was a natural Fly. Medel was a very, very good Bantamweight and a very hard puncher. No shame for the Scot', who would go on to greater success in his natural weightclass.

Fighting Harada vs Pone Kingpetch 1 Harada couldnt miss with the right hand and his punch output was fantastic, especially after hurting Kingpetch with the right then letting go with an almost incalcuable amount of punches for the finish. Great stuff:thumbsup
