And their ability to make money/do business with Top Rank means more than losing out on one single fight with a promotional company. Their not going to kamikaze that relationship just because they lost out on the most recent Pacquiao fight (though one could posit that the very reason they lost out on Pacquiao-Marquez is because the PPV sales for Pacquiao-Mosley and Cotto-Mayorga were not as impressive as expected).

This is nothing more than baseless equivocation. HBO didn't inflate the numbers themselves for Pacquiao-Hatton; they refused to disclose them per Arum's request after he publicly inflated the numbers in the press. See here: http://edition.cnn.com/2009/SPORT/05/04/manny.money/ and here: http://espn.go.com/boxing/blog/_/name/rafael_dan/id/4165901

Golden Boy has never been once caught lying about their numbers after a fight has taken place. Schaefer and Oscar no doubt say loony things about their projections, but there's never been a shred of evidence that the numbers they've been released have been purposefully inflated, something that clearly does not apply to Top Rank.

As has already been pointed out, this is not the case.

Your reaching in assuming that Showtimes executives went through a highly publicized bidding war for the rights to carry the Pac vs JMM rubber match because Pac vs Shane did so poorly or "not as impressive as expected".:rofl

And as a publicly traded company the profits and revenues are made public for all the vested share holders who have a stake in the companies growth, to see how the company is performing annually.

Golden boy HAS been caught trying to inflate their PPV numbers just like all Promotional companies kid. And as a young company has been at the center if illegal activities as a promotional company....I wouldn't but the halo over them just yet. Lol.

You need to define 'highly publicized bidding war'. It is not far fetched at all that Showtime had no problem letting Arum use them to drive up the price for a rival on an event they weren't seriously considering.

IIRC, what you had was Arum publically talking about Showtime's alleged 'tremendous' offer, and then running right over to HBO to leverage that to drive up the price.

Most 'public' companies, is the midst of 'serious' negotiations, would never allow themselves to have the parameters of their offer publically disclosed like that. There would be so many NDAs signed that Arum could never reveal that sort of info.

    Step your business game up.

Let's hope you remember that next time you take Bob Arum's word on anything, including Showtime's 'tremendous' offer.

My business game is where you hope to end up when you grow up.:yep I went to school for business kid. HBO was livid Greenburg lost the Pac fight to Showtime.... You think its coincidence that Ross retired and the president of showtime sports took over his spot? :-( that's not even something you need a degree to identify.....just common sense. The fact is Pac is a good business move for any network. So is Floyd....Which is why we see outside countries looking to hold this fight.

HBO is the big network with more leverage period. They typically always get the big fights and the big names......so Showtime got lucky that top rank was upset that HBO boss showed loyalty to Golden Boy with regards to giving that promotional company prime tv dates over Top Rank which allowed Showtime to get their biggest fight ever.....

Look at what HBO had to do based on the deal Pac got with that one fight under showtime.....CBS owns Showtime and Turner broadcasting owns HBO...they now have mainstream TV as part of their promotion.... The difference is TBS vests far more money in to HBO than CBS does for Showtime....which is why HBO owns this market... Best believe Showtime tried but HBO had to bring out the big guns to re sign Manny.

HBO never "officially" released the numbers for Floyd vs Ortiz either. They've been uncharacteristicly quiet after Golden boy and Floyd released the "official" PPV numbers of 1.25 million. Which is more suspicious given HBO is in fact a publicly traded company who legally have the responsibilty to devuldge that kind of information.

That would be insulting if that comment didn't come from you... The profits from the PPV event would be made available which IS LEGALLY enforced numb nuts. So while they don't have to release the number of units sold, it would take a complete moron not to be able to figure it out knowing how much the PPV fight cost. why do I find my self having to "spell it out " for these clowns? Aside from the obvious:D
