No more than ali against Liston. If ali's not getting full credit for beating liston in one round why should liston get kudos for beating floyd in one round?

Liston was a great fighter and he beat a great champion to become champion - as did Ali, but IMO neither beat guys who were trying in those fights that ended in one round for the title. Liston tried in miami but not in maine.

If u want 2 take anything away from Liston's 2 KOs of Patterson then at least blame "Patterson's not trying" on d mafia . Petterson seemed trying at least 2 me , he came forward twice . This is trying more than Ali did most of d time .

Its just my opinion but why do we have to blame it on anyone?

my point is floyd and sonny both let themselves down and them letting themselves down has a lot more to both losing title fights in one round.

I think Patterson was rather knocked out by Liston but if he did take a dive then I guess it can only b blamed on d mafia rather than anything else .

floyd was knocked out for sure. he just was in no frame of mind to fight that night just like liston in maine. zero focus, did not want to be there. very unprofesional. brian london would have beat the patterson who fought Liston IMO.

Patterson was twice 1st KOd by Liston . He couldn't do better , unless he tried 2 run 4 his life but he didn't have d Ali/Whitaker mentality . He also lacked Ali's reach & overall size which enabled him 2 lightly connect on Liston . Floyd's only mental problem vs Liston , supposing he didn't throw d fights , was his own aggression . No aggressive version of his could have done any better .

Max Schmeling also disgraced the sport by being KO'd in one round by Joe Louis. Willard too had the fight been stopped in round 1. Can't forget about Walcott or Spinks.

schmeling admitted to being affected by the occasion. It was a big fight, he was the only German in the house... Joe Louis was great that night, he delivered just as ali and liston would but was that the best version of schmeling? was that the best version of Patterson (against liston) or against ali in Maine was that the best version of liston? A first round KO has to be a competitive fight for it to count as a great win otherwise its is a blow out where one man scores first. Louis v mauriello was a fight, quarry v shavers was a fight.
ali v liston, Tyson v Spinks and liston v Patterson were "blow outs". when it is a blow out blame the guy who loses.

The only ones who disgraced that fight were Joe Louis with his loaded gloves and everything from Franklin Roosevelt to Governer Lehman of NY on down who ordered and arranged to have the fight fixed. Roosevelt said he will not be embarrassed by Germany again.

Amazingly how many of the 'boxing pundits' picked Floyd Patterson to
    handily defeat Sonny Liston.

Dave Leggit, a Chicago boxing writer, 'Sonny Liston is still a glorified club-fighter.
He still needs seasoning, at least another 5-fights before he gets in the ring
    with Floyd Patterson'.

Young Jack Johnson, a sparring-partner for Floyd Patterson; 'Sonny is slow, and
his footwork is pathetic, even on a good day. And, he positions his right hand
poorly, leaving him vulnerable to left hooks to the body. Floyd is too fast
for this 'big-boy', and I won't be suprised when Floyd's hand is lifted as the
    victor.'

The Las Vegas betting-odds were not that overwhelming for 'Sonny-Boy'.

The early betting line 7-5 for Liston.

The most lucrative boxing match in history, with an estimated gross of
    $5,000,000 to $7,000,000.

Yeah, Liston was still somewhat unproven going in against Patterson.
Folley and Machen were solid contenders, but maybe Floyd was a step up again.

I actually think Patterson was one of the weakest of the undisputed heavyweight champions.
Still, Liston was the man who really drives that point home !
