I've been busting my ass in the gym trying to lose 25 pounds but I keep hearing different people saying "you need to do high intensity cardio" and others are saying, thats only good for building endurance and training your heart, if you really want to lose weight, stick to the "fat burning" zone. Can someone help me out here?
EAT LESS MOVE MORE. all bout calories high intensity burns more calories per minute done... but you cant do it as long as long fat burning cardio.
if you want to lose 25lbs it will be a combination of things. add in some cardio sessions to your week, mix it up, you will benefit from all ranges, there is research to support both but ultimately either is better than none. eat good clean foods, mother nature, no crazy shakes or supplements or processed foods. high intensity burns less calories during exercise, trains your actual conditioning to a better level (VO2 max I think??) and ups your metabolism for longer afterwards, burning more calories and processing nutrients more efficiently. Slower cardio ("fat burning zone" as I remember as the heart rates for that are something like 65% vs cardio training's 80%+) will burn more calories during, train your conditioning levels less but also be less stressful on the body and the cns, but will burn less calories throughout the rest of the day. Bottom line, do some of both, and be consistent and patient.
Eat less run more? Mind you I am a CW/HW... I slowed down on running when I started Boxing due to feeling a bit tired in training. I felt physically like I was burning more calories, but my weight loss stopped cold. I even gained. I am now running again? Back on track.
I've cut down to about 1800-2000, I exercise about 40 minutes with weights and do the elliptical for 1 hour everyday.
Very simple, either cut calories or increase cardio (or both). Doesn't really matter what you're eating. If you're eating 2500 cals whether it's chicken or cookies, but you burn 2000 cals a day, you'll gain weight. If you're eating 1500 cals, whether chicken or cookies, and you burn 2000, you'll lose weight. Obviously don't be dumb and go get all of your calories from cookies now though.
Its not about eating less, its about eating the right foods. Dont eat junk food. Eat lots of leans meats like chicken, fish or tuna. Eat vegetables, fruit and also train as much as you can. You can mix up your training, some high intence, sometimes slow runs. Just keep exercising and eat the correct foods.
I eat a lot of food, but i dont eat much junk food, so i am lean. But i also train for over 2 hours every night. Its not about cutting the calories as such, its more about eating the right foods. If you eat chocolate and cookies you will put on fat weight, but if you eat chicken and salad you will not put on any fat. Dont forget you need to eat food to be able to train hard, if you cut your calories too much you will not have the energy to train hard.
Are you losing weight or not? Yes: Keep doing what you're doing. Do it a little harder or more often if you want to lose weight faster. No: Work out harder or more often and/or eat a little less. It's really really simple. Has absolutely nothing to do with what kind of exercise you're doing and everything to do with calories in vs. calories out.
diet is literally 80 percent of it from my experience. of course everybody is different, and every body is different- but speaking as myself as an example, i use to train quite sparingly, and ate carefully, and was a pretty lean 67 kilos. now, i train like a mutha****a- at least 5 6 days a week, high intensity cardio, boxing, weights, swimming, basketball- really the most i ve ever trained- however i ve been eatig poorly since im in the city - and there is a lack of options near- plus im always running late for work, etc, etc- just not trying hard enough- and im 72 kilos now- and although im more muscular and fit than ever- im kinda more pudgy than i d like. depending on your age and body type- u can mix up what works for you in terms of diet and exercise. its kind of a balancing act. but yeah- it sounds like ur training hard already- ad******g the diet s probably the thing.
in terms of what to do- HIIT is the thing , depending on the body type you want. if you want lean- then jogging, if you want muscular and low fat- then HIIT. the way i see it is look at sprinters versus middle distance runners versus marathon guys. depending on what your body is at- and how you want it to be- will dictate the trainig you do. at my boxing gym we used to meet up every morning for 5 kilometre runs every day 6 days a week. now we meet up every second day for sprints in the park that total about 2 kilometres, so the training and the techniques have changed in the past 7 years tremendously for me.
