trust me mate i take all of your points regarding the style i think ricky needs to win , your right he cant back off and try and box his way to victory , katsidis will just hunt him down. speed as ive mentoned is the key that i think will win the fight , katsidis did lose something vs guerro so lets see what he has left. if im wrong i will come on here no probs and say so one things certain - it will be a great fight
Don't know why but I've always thought he was Canadian :huh. Anyways bit of a side issue anyway. That Katsidis win could be the making of him to be honest. He seemed to stumble upon a style that fitted him perfectly. In the fights I saw him in at featherweight and super-feather as well as the Casamayor one, he just seemed to me to be a pretty stiff, robotic type of fighter who was unwilling to adapt and was happy to fight behind his safeish, boring but ultimately effective style of jab, jab, straight left. His height allowed him to do this pretty well and as you say got him wions over decent world level operators like Salido/Klaasen. He was pretty much a southpaw, lower weight Wlad in my mind. But I always had the feeling that style would eventually get him caught out. He hardly ever looked comfortable to me whilst he was fighting and the borefest vs. a shot Casamayor may have been a wake up call to him that his career wasn't really progressing. Because in that Katsidis fight admittedly he did look a million dollars and he showed me punching form that I never thought he would possess. Choosing Maidana as a first fight at 140 would seem to be a masterstroke- another come forward aggressive style in the mould of Katsidis but without anywhere near the Aussie's skill of cutting the ring off and pressuring effectively. I don't know if it's bias on my side or probably more due to reservations I have on Guerrero's punch resistance but I'd slightly favour the Argentinian in that one. But in truth, it's a fight he should be favourite to win. If he tries to stick to a style where his counterpunching ability is at the forefront I think he may have a great deal more success and become a lot more popular with fans than he was when down at featherweight but as I say at the minute, I'm still not really sold on him
hilarious how everyone goes on saying this is an insane fight to take, that ricky wont last a few rounds, that its a foregone conclusion... but that burns moved up to lightweight to duck broner lol
because theres a general mindset in the brit forum, if 3 people come out and say it, nobody argues with it... safe to say its what most people are thinking. if i say "burns stops katisidis" you would all be on to me in a shot, but someone heavily implies that burns is not in kats class, but that he took the fight to duck adrien ****ing broner, JUST as ludicrous a claim..but....oh look, not a word
Burns geting beaten by Kats at a weight above is less risky thatn having his belt took off him at his optimum weight. Kats will wipe the floor with Burns Wouldnt be suprised to see Burns back down at Super Feather after this taking a 'comeback fight' before offering Broner out for one last payday
**** logic. I could find you 3 posts in seconds which say the opposite, doesn't mean that "everyone" is thinking it. Don't like the Brit forum? Please return to the wonderful General then.
That's being overly-harsh on him JFT. He was tremendous offensively against Klassen, he kept him turning and threw every punch in the book, he was wearing him down with hooks to the body from either hand and then stinging him to the head with left uppercuts in particular. If memory serves he threw over a thousand punches in that fight, in no way comparable to a 130lbs Wladimir. The Casamayor fight was awful, and he really didn't show the same repotoire of blows he had done previously, but that had as much to do with the fact that Cepillo was content to spoil for the entirety of the fight than any other component. He stayed at range and dictated that the only shots The Ghost could throw would be straight, and when he managed to work his way in from distance by landing the left hand and advancing Joel would cling on for dear life. The fight was killed by Casamayor's holding. And then he dropped back down to 135lbs and has looked excellent, putting in great displays against both Escobedo and Katsidis. You could argue that Escobedo is only a fringe contender(if even) and that Katsidis was past it, it probably is the case, that's why he dominated them though, because he's a fighter of genuine class, and that is what a fighter of genuine class would do, outclass opposition like that. As of right now he's far and away better, or at least more proven that Ricky Burns. And I like Burns, I'm critical of his defences and I don't rate Martinez, but I still considered Burns a top super-feather(a pretty shoddy division, mind). That said he's really not beaten anyone in the class of Guerrero's opponents, nor has he even shown against that limited opposition that he does anything better than Robert. I mean, Guerrero was able to wear down come-forward guys like Katsidis and Klassen with his jab and his body-punching and really deter them, reducing them to mere punching bags, Burns couldn't keep Evensen off him with his jab nor wear him down by going to the body anywhere near as well as Guerrero did against far and away superior fighters. Maybe people have the Casamayor fight in the forefront of their mind too much, I don't know, but whatever flaws Guerrero does have get blown up to be far higher than they really are in reality. He's one of the more well-rounded fighters you'll find I think, and a nice guy to boot.
Anyone with half a brain cell gonna vote for Burns by KO???....That 1 single vote is looking very Scottish!....I mean most of the jocks and fair play to em they back their man, but even the most extreme rose tinted glasses in the view of Burns knows he has a chance............NO ****ING CHANCE.
Everything says Katsidis will stop the smaller Burns but i do fancy Burns for this. Burns by SD. (After tasting canvas)
