He is somewhat underrated. It is hard to say how he would have done if he had went over to America at an earlier stage and hunted top names by moving up and down in weight and so on. Probably some losses and some wins. I think he could have done guys like Hopkins and Taylor, but been beaten by Jones and some other very hard hitters. Dont think he would have been exposed, as some posters like to believe. I think they just freak out about how he cashed in late in his career. Some statements about him are pretty dumb and seems emotional.
Calzaghe is overrated. When his biggest wins are Lacy, Kessler and a 43 year old Hopkins then you know he's overrated.
Overrated. In his supposed prime Calzaghe's was struggling with fighters like Reid, Starie and Thornberry. This was his level, anything above and he would have lost. He had a little fulirish at the end, but Lacy was all hype, Kessler was solid but nothing special and the Hopkins fight could have gone against him. But just because Calzaghe retired undefeated people seem to think he was unbeatable, which is rubbish. Taylor did better (twice) against a younger Hopkins, yet people don't shoot their load over that in the same way Calzaghe fans do over Calzaghe getting dropped and winning a SD against Hopkins.
Calzaghe is without doubt a bona fide ATG. You can make an argument for him being top 20, I'm not saying he's the GOAT or anything. His detractors (a.k.a haters) are just bitter BHop fanboys, who can't accept they boy got beat. Calzaghe SD12 Hopkins, accept it and move on.
