    It could be that he believes Americans only know him by the name Hopkins called him by.....or maybe he does not want people to have trouble saying his name.....who knows.....all I know is I was cringing every time Rummy called him by that womanly name :lol:

    There are times when boxers mispronounce their name intentionally.
    For example JoJo Dan's real name Is Ionuţ Dan Ion which is probably hard to pronounce by English and French speakers and word by word translation would be Johnny Dan John. I guess since every body called him JoJo Dan he is referring himself as such. Bute Jean is a very easy name to pronounce, and pretty well known. Like I said... Strange.
    Maybe he had one of those moments when your mind goes blank for a few seconds... Hello I'm Geny Pascal :lol: and I called for the interview

    I wonder what the correct way to pronounce it actually is? I *always* called him "Jhawn" previously on the show, but he did pronounce his name as "Jean" and I believe his people even did the same.

    Also, I'm pretty sure Andre Ward has always called him "Jean" and Ward is a pretty sharp guy, so I've always wondered if there was something to his pronunciation.

    That said, now I have no clue how I should pronounce it going forward, but if Pascal himself is saying "Jean" I think I ought to respect that.

    His in a French speaking zone .... All french Canadians will pronounce "Jhawn". How long has he been living in Canada? Haitian pronunciation of the word Jean is something like "Gia". So I don't really think there is anybody family or friends that calls him on a daily basic "Gene".
    Just ask him next time before entering the show: how would you like to be called "Jhawn" or "Gene". And you'll get that of your chest.

    Let's just face it, it's hard for an American to say "Jhawn". It's uncommon and awkward to us. I probably would have bailed on the two options and gone with Mr. Pascal. But how gay would that have sounded?

    It shouldn't be that hard, to say "Jhawn", it should be easy if you heard it once.
    What would be hard is to pronounce Oosthuizen correct if you never heard it.
