    Hearns
    Tyson
    Hopkins
    Jones
    Mayweather
    De La Hoya

    My guess is Mickey Ward

    Agree with you on Conney, he had a lot of following, was it only for one fight until he was exposed as being somewhat limited. Also I would hardly call Butterbean popular

    As for Pavlik, how much drawing power does he really have?

    well he had enough to draw 5000 people from youngstown to make the trip to AC. not sure how much more until he starts winning again

    I would mos def say Pavlik, after he beat Jermaine Taylor twice... He was on top, then when he fought Bernard and lost of course. But that fight was a huge draw...

    For a while there it seemed Pavlik would become his generation's "face" of Caucasian-American boxing...but his stay at the top may have been too short-lived.

    Yeah, probably Gatti or Ward (or fittingly, the two co-reigning together).

    Of course, if you want to be technical Gatti was Canadian. If you want to be even more technical, though - "American" doesn't have to mean "from the US". It most strictly means "from North America". Actually, in the STRICTEST sense it means "from either American continent". :good

    in the 80s boxing in general was more popular, you also had guys like Ray Mancini, Vinny Pazienza, Gerry Cooney...last 10, Pavlik, Gatti, Ward
