why does this fight have to turn into a battleground issue

i was a big vitali fan and was really angry at the ending but i understood that it was the right kind of stoppage i mean what if Vitali won but went blind instead he now is the 1 or 2 right now cleaning house

cant we jsut take this fight for what it is

one of the best hwt battles of recent times

shame this fight didnt get a more like able conclusion but thats boxing for ya

anything can happen and what we want as fans doesnt always happen

this fight deserves an HBO legendary nights though great story

Why repeat this BS over and over again?
I don't see anyone arguing with the statistical outcome of this fight.

There is only one reason why this topic is argued about almost daily on every boxing forum on the Internet.

Lewis avoided a rematch to settle things.

As it was, the ending of the fight left a lot of questions. Lewis was booed out of Staples Center on the last fight of his career. There was no real resolution to the fight, and it was obvious that we needed to see more. And Lewis did promise a rematch after the fight.

When he later decided against it, he left this topic unresolved, which is why it will be argued about from now until doomsday.

You kids can argue about it till doomsday all you want. Nothing will change your OPINION of this fight from the FACT that Lewis won.

Saying "Vitali woulda won...blah blah" actually means very little in the real world. But it's makes you fans feel better about the loss. SO have at it! :thumbsup

The FACT is also that Lewis was booed out of the Staples Center on the last fight of his career. Very odd way to end a HOF career for a "winner."

A pyrrhic victory indeed, one that left more questions than answers about Lennox Lewis, who had also been beaten up by McCall and Rahman.

Which is why a rematch was needed.

It's not just Domination. This Lewis-Vitali argument is probably the most recurring one on every boxing forum out there. And it is for a reason. Because the result was open-ended enough where both men can claim some sort of victory. There are legit points to be made for both sides, which is why this argument never goes away. And never will go away.

Only a rematch would have settled this issue. Unless Lennox comes back and fights Vitali, the argument will go on and on....

:patsch Of course, rematches should ALWAYS be mandatory when dealing with a near 40 World Champ who just won. In fact, Lewis should have fought him until Vitali clearly won one!!

The "Lewis was old" argument is one of the weakest ones out there. He was said by many (including himself) to be in his prime when he beat Tyson. The "Lennox was old" argument is just rationalizing after the fact. The idea that Lewis was too old and crippled to train and fight Vitali again is just silly.

Lewis wasn't "old" for the heavyweight division. Vitali is 40 now and better than ever. Lewis was 37 when he fought Vitali. Wlad is 35 now.
