    Folks,

I am reviewing my tape of "Ali-Frazier 3" from Manila, and, Don Dunphy is the announcer calling the shots....... I know Don Dunphy (1908-1998) called the heat for many big fights going back to 1941, but how can he deny Ali being the greatest based on his life and death struggle with Frazier in '75??? C'mon, is Louis and Marciano gonna take the pain in Manila like Ali did, or dish out a better beating??? PUH-LEASE!!! Frazier was only age 31, and thought used up, but he came In-shape looking to kick some ass..... Frazier was no slouch in Manila.......
    :deal:-(
    C'mon Back And Shout....:bbb

I read his interview from circa---'88 in World Boxing magazine, or it was KO mag... Time has passed....... Dunphy rated Louis and Marciano ahead of Ali.... I just about choked......

It was around the time Duran and Barkley tangled in Feb. '89, but Dunphy's story was taped beforehand.... Dunphy was already retired.....

Nostalgia, I guess Bill. Ali struggled with an awesome awesome fighter in Frazier. Marciano gave up too many rounds to Charles (Although won). I guess winning can justify almost any opinion. Louis, well, preferring him over Ali is not all that crazy. Although Ali struggled with Frazier but who did Louis struggle with? So that logic is a bit weird.

Because he's right! And I wish they had announcers like Don Dunphy today instead of the chattering morons the networks inflict upon us.

Styles do make fights........ But, I sense Dunphy was favorable to fighters closer to his own age or older, rather than a younger man......

Dunphy of 1981 wined into the mic after Davey Pearl stopped "Leonard-Hearns" in the 14th round, stating it was too soon...... WTF? Hearns was dead along the ropes when Pearl halted the fight......

This is quite ironic really. Because only Nostalgia could hope to list Ali as the greatest ever. If you look at times in any measurable sport, there is no person from the 60s who could compete today. At lleast that is what the modernists tell me.

So if you are not nostalgic you cant possibly rate ali no 1. And by the way, I can remember when the new fad thought it inconcievable that Ali could beat Tyson! In fact, Ali only really became the consensus no 1 (or 2) some time around the time that he lit the olympic torch flame. It is amazing what good publicity can do.

If the 1960s contenders cannot compete today, so be it with the 1940s and 1950s................ :deal Yes, we have slobs today, but not in the form of a K-brother...... No, sir...... Ali's comp / fights of 1970 to 1977 were intensely based upon great foe's.... Not that "Liston, Patty, Chuvalo, Williams & Folley" were wimps in the 60s....

Well, I don't know about that incident that you refer to, but anybody can have an off night - but give me Don Dunphy and Les Keiter and the old pros who broadcast the blow by blow, the actual fight itself, instead of the chattering teams of jackasses they inflict upon us now!

As i am told by the modernists, how do those sprinting times, swimming times. wightlifting records, from the 60s looking today. We cant possibly compete, can we? It is all about modern nutrition, training methods and evolution. Isnt it?

Or are you a bit nostalgic yourself?

I do believe in old school methods....... Ever since that gottdamn hypocrite Evan Fields began juicing hardcore in the 1990s, a whole gottdamn tidal wave of juicers has followed....... Then again, perhaps blame Lyle Alzado, too....??? Steroids and sports is so messed up in 2011........

I actually agree with you and think Sli beats both Louis and Marciano, but Ithose two guys make it a great fight no matter what. I Just wanted to point out that you cant dismiss teir selections as nostalgia when suggesting Ali beats the Klitchskos or Lewis is the identical thing.

It does get tricky / hazy to envision a 212 pound Ali of '67 beating a 2000 version of Lenny Lewis or a 2004, 2008 or 2011 version of V.K., despite V.K. being age 40 right now upon kicking ass on Tom Adamek... I wanna believe in Ali there, but I can't be sure.......

Ali got testosterone shots so he definitely was a juicer 2 .
