It was a choice and not a particularly inspiring one IMO. He should've just decimated him instead.

Why? He outlanded him by a huge ratio & took him to school

He has fragile hands & was cruising. Floyd wouldnt be the 1st fighter to not fully extend himself when an easy decision awaited. I love JMM & I'm glad he didnt get a beating, IIRC no-one else has stopped him.

Floyd isnt the most likeable character or the bravest but he is one of my favourite active fighters purely down to ability.

He moved too much for me. Against Shane, Floyd put it all together, no cruising, no unnecessary movement.

Cruising when you've got a decision wrapped up is one TGIF, but with the styles clashing as they were Floyd could've thrown more IMO.

Also, Floyd had the attributes to hit and not be hit against JMM, which is what most struggle with against the great Mexican. Floyd was in no danger stylistically whatsoever, let's be honest. Which is why it means little to me as a win, but more importantly, doesn't rank highly in Floyds wins.

The lay off means nothing to me, he was chilling, hardly Pep coming from the plane crash, or Ali from suspension ;-)

Also, top P4P guy means little if their physical abilities are diminished against someone naturally bigger. Nonito Donaire is a top P4P fighter that Floyd would take the **** out of, doesn't make it a decent win.

I would say the JMM win was 'okay'. Floyd did everything we knew he could do against Marquez. He didn't exceed anyone's expectations, other than those who fought he might be past his best after so long out.

Any form of dancing is hard work :D I've not seen him move like that since

Ive watched the fight many times since but I still remember watching it live (on tv) & telling my mates that Marquez was a far better boxer than Hatton but he couldnt land a glove on Floyd. Everyone loves a knock-out, only weirdos like me like Floyd making people look silly:oops:

Who cares. Old news fight been talked to death so much even the Scene has banned threads on the two fights. Bored of them.

I'm with you on that. Preferring an utter schooling that is, not being a weirdo.

I love watching the likes of Mayweather, Mijares, basically any excellent boxer who is considered ''boring'' making their opponents look completely inept by simply being too good for them in second gear.

That doesn't mean we have to rate these victories though. I've watched Mayweather-Marquez at least 4 times because I love the performance, but I don't rate it as a win, because it was a ridiculous match-up. I remember when JMM was moving up to lightweight and people questioned it, the fact that Mayweather fought him at welter made it a nonsensical fight, even as a ''comeback''. It's like Agbeko beating Wonjongkam or Ward beating Cotto.

Kind of like Prescott-Khan, I don't particularly rate the victory, but I still watch it at least once a day and laugh my tits off.

I'm with Barlow on this. Bored shiteless by this saga, will only be interested if/when its on and confirmed and even then I'll probably take it with a pinch of salt until they're touching gloves.

One of Mayweather's best performance, the old too big excuse is naturally used in this situation (imagine if Marquez had fought Berto he would have probably destroyed him then everyone would say he is the genuine article at welterweight).

I wonder what weight advantage Ortiz had over Mayweather come fight night?

great performance... tainted by the fact he was over the agreed limit for the fight, against a guy who was fighting at least two weight division above his best.

Yes, he was off for two years, yes, he didn't show any rust any ruse after a long lay off and yes it was an exhibition of skill. But, the p4p number 2 don't mean **** when the guy you fighting is jumping two division nd looking flabby plus you go over the agreed limit at weigh in.

And chaps, reason I don't revisit the performance and enjoy it for it's display of aethetic beauty is because I'm a cynical *******s who would prefer to watch a genuinely fair matchup :good

There's LOADS of fights just waiting to be re-discovered. Why re-watch a Floyd Mayweather fight when I can watch Benton Vs Carter? :hey

The Marquez fight was just awful. What was the point of it? None and then Floyd didn't even bother stopping a guy he could easily have put away. That's what I expect from a true elite. Could you have seen Ray Leonard not putting him away?

That's literally what I said in the post that you just quoted Columbo.

Don't try to explain something to me which I just outlined. I said it was "ridiculous", and that Marquez was pushing it in te first place by even moving to 135lbs, what did you think I was trying to say there exactly?

I'm talking purely aesthetics here, as far as I'm concerned the fight means ZERO. The lads were rating fights out of ten a page or so ago, I wouldn't even give this a 5.

Please don't repeat this post right back at me.

Yeah, but, come one, mate. Be real. JMM was jumping up two weight divisions. Regardless of how good it looked, the fact that it was a ridiculous matchup can't be ignored.
