We know this doesn't work with boxing. Please don't ask why, I'm afraid you sadly don't understand boxing if actually want to ask such a question. Besides, I don't want to have to explain why (It's a tiresome subject in the general forum. One which gets discussed at ad-nauseam.

I'm not quite sure what you're saying. Okay, we agree boxing is different than other sports. Even if there isn't chronological progression or evolution, that doesn't mean strong eras don't come and go. Just like weak eras come and go. So you can't blindly treat all boxing eras as being equal because boxing may be different than other sports. Golden eras exist. Being undefeated isn't proof of a superior legacy.

Tunney-Ali even odds Burt? Wish you were in charge of setting all boxing lines. I'd make a fortune.

Ali was 210 1/2 for Liston in '64 and 206 in Maine later in '65...... Ali was 212 for his fight with Cleve Williams in Houston........ Ali was 215 for Frazier in '71, but slightly past his best by then.......

Ali of 1966 / '67 at around 212 pounds is where he was best.....:deal:bbb

He saw all of them in primes, and live at ringside, so he has opinion that counts.

Dunphy was age 73 when he called the "Drama In The Bahamas" (Ali-Berbick) of 1981..... I thought Ali was flabby at 236, but he was worried about his weight, cuz he said 218 was too light at age 38 for Holmes..... Well, 236 was a pinch too heavy for Berbick.... Ali would've been better despite being being in a faded state with Park's syndrome had he been around 228 to 230 pounds, IMO... I know Ali was diagnosed with Park's in 1984, but the signs were there by 1978 if you look deep...... Ali's speech and motor skills were of a 65 year old in 1981.......

Ali of '66 and '67 against "Chuvalo, Williams and Folley" was when Ali peaked as champ.... Than it was taken away by uncle Sam cuz of the gottdamn political, commy war over in 'Nam...... Ali was robbed of his prime....

    MR.BILL:bbb:deal:hat

Point is, Ali was best around 210 to 214 pounds as he matured......

Burt, with all due respect here, you talk about the thought police and in the same breath deride other peoples opinion. Your recent comments to other posters who are just giving their opinions, who are entitled to them the same way as you, is not very becoming of you. All this 'your omnipotent idol' Ali,and other slurs that you been casting this while back, is as if yours is the only opinion that counts, and damn anyone else who thinks different. I havent seen 1 person here deride Louis in this debate, (indeed most would agree hes a top 2 lock-in) and lets face it, Joe was no saint either and it wouldnt be too hard to throw accusations at some things Joe did outside the ring, any more than you do about Ali. The difference being that some dont feel the need to do this when debating what goes on IN the ring

    Note:

Dunphy stated "Ali-Berbick" was better than expected after the final bell sounded.... Be as it may be true, Ali still looked like a ghost / shell of his former self at age 39 and 236 pounds... His speech was slurred and he wobbled back to his corner after 3 lousy rds of battle with Berbick.... Ali was physically ill by 1981 without doubt...... I can't blame Dr. Ferdie Pacheco wanting out after the Norton # 3 fight, yet was released after Ali's struggle with Shavers in '77....... Dr. Pacheco was still of sound mind himself in 1977.....

Fair point you make if i sound shrill J, but i am a counterpuncher, and yes I believe the esteemed poster was wrong in saying that Tunney at about 192 pounds, would be too small for Ali,and would lose to him for that REASON, whilst Ali, on the other hand was NOT too small for many, many of Ali's heavier opponents. I was called "oldtimer",by the poster and I did strike back by using such a vile name as omnipotent in describing Ali...compared to what A jack Dempsey post brings, "too small, overated, couldn't compete today, a racist was he, never fought a black fighter, etc, I who
admire the old Manassa Mauler, responded and used the "horrendous" term "omnipotent", of which means a heck of a lot less demeaning then what I have been called on ESB. Remember JM,while I am no youngster, I still have feelings and my wits about me, so I respond accordingly. Take care...
P.S. NO ONE escapes FATHER TIME !:hi:

I was saying that Johnmaff made a good observation in HIS post. There is no way on Earth,Heaven or Hades that I condone anyone calling you a "senile old *****" In fact,I condemn it :fire :fire As well as disagreeing with it. You are no more senile than I am a Britney Spears lookalike !!

I know what some can be like on here. Some poster with his backside where his brain ought to be,called me "slightly ******ed" the other day, simply because I disagree with his constant insults about Muhammad Ali. Don't let it get you down. Little things please little minds,Burt.
