I just cant see ranking Morales ahead of Marquez Ability wise.

Did a prime Morales lose to Freddie Norwood or Chris John? :huh No, he consistently outfought guys of that calibre. People continually overrate Marquez because of his sublime combination-throwing abilities. You can't overlook a fighter's deficiencies simply because he's so awesome at one thing. The closeness of the Barrera vs Marquez fight (in reality if not on the cards) fully convinced me that Marquez was not quite on the Barrera/Morales level, which I already suspected on account of fights like John and Norwood. A patently past-prime MAB, a much poorer version than the version that Morales went life and death with three times, outjabbed and outboxed JMM for significant periods of that fight. I have no doubt whatsoever that a prime MAB convincingly defeats a prime JMM.

Elaborate how mate? For reasons given in the post above, I rank Marquez a clear third. And with regard to MAB and EM, I just prefer Barrera at his peak, I think he was slightly more versatile and found his peak performances a bit more all-round impressive and convincing.

I reckon that a prime Marquez beats a prime Barrera. And Marquez was also past his best, IMO. He was nowhere near as good as he was at featherweight. Just watch him against Pacquaio I, Medina and Polo, etc. Far more nimble on his toes with quicker hands too. His reflexes were far sharper.

He's held his performances at a good level since leaving featherweight. Barrera, Pacquaio II, Casamayor, Diaz I and II, etc. However, I think he was physically and skillfully at his best between 2003-2006.

Marquez may not have been at his absolute best, but MAB was obviously more far gone by '07. Not only as a result of turning professional a full four years before Marquez, but having also had a stupendous amounts of wars throughout a career than began in '89.

I have no arguments with that, but MAB had been removed from his prime since '03.

I just wanted to know what you thought each of them did well. You've elaborated.

Marquez didn't lose those fights, he was robbed. Barrera and Morales lost to clear stylistic foils, whereas Marquez fought similar caliber fighters early in his career (missed out in comparison to them at the lower weights) and then fought similar caliber fighters at lightweight. Marquez was never dominated and arguably never lost below 144, and is still performing well past his physical peak as the lightweight king.

I wouldn't argue with someone ranking him third against them, but if Marquez is overrated because he throws good combinations, then Morales and Barrera get a bit overrated for beating the **** out of each other.

A prime Marquez would have never been stopped by Junior Jones, and he also beat Drew with a very prime Pac-man and lost a close split D.

Marquez is being under-rated by boxing analysts.

I think its pretty clear that Morales had the best chin of the 3, Addie.... Jones hit MAB on the chin & he was seeing unicorns, Marquez as you say has been floored too many times, Morales has never been floored by being sparked on the chin, only Pac has ever put him down & he was past it by then, both Marco & JMM had this happen to them right in their prime.

Morales wins this one, no doubt.

On these points, I will agree with you... tho I wouldn`t say `flatout` but he won close but clear in the Pac rematch, think I had it 7-4-1.

I think Morales is a better distance boxer than both Barrera & Marquez, they were a bit better defensively than Morales (tho Morales defense gets more **** than it deserves at times on here)... Morales had the much smoother footwork, the best jab, chin, straight right hand (obviously) & close range uppercuts with either hand.

I also feel Morales had the best mobility at their best (that probably comes under footwork tho)

Morales `skills` are very underrated because he is seen as an exciting warrior type, he is no less than MAB or JMM as far as boxing skills go.

What are you blabbering on about? You obviously weren't following the division when Morales was in his pomp, you didn't follow what was happening and you haven't seen allot of his fights.

For 1 more people than not had Marquez beating John and Norwood was a razor thin decision, Morales never fought a slickster of the calibre of Norwood, in fact he was protected from Norwood/Gainer/Marquez and most of the other top featherweights by Arum. Arum was very strategic in protecting Morales

Prime Morales got a gift decision against a past it Espadas, who was nowhere near as good as Norwood/John, went life and death with the average Chi, got shut out by Raheem (ok past his prime but Raheem had just moved up from FW before you pretend it's a size issue). Marquez did have a close fight with MAB, Morales had 3 close fights with MAB, JMM and MAB were the same age though

Morales is a great fighter but for some reason no one questions him being protected (he was outside of the seriously big money fights), his gifts (MAB and Espadas), the timing of some of his wins (fights way past their best) and some of his average performances
