Guerrero is different class form everyone at 135(not incl. JMM). Burns would put up a great shows vs Rios. Ghost UD 116-112
I feel Rios is being somewhat overrated. Burns would certainly lose to him because Rios wouldn't hesitate in the same way that Kats did at times, but for the most part Burns showed himself to be defensive tight digging those elbows into his body and keeping that guard up top nice and strong. He looked to possess a more study chin than tonight than the Burns that got rocked at 130 by Rocky. He's not a varied enough boxer to beat Rios but I don't see it being some kind of absolute slaughter in the style of a Tzsyu-Gonzalez. Guerrero pisses on anybody at 135, aside from maybe Marquez. That being said, are both Rios and Guerrero guaranteed to keep making 135 for much longer?
Who has Guerrero defeated at 135lbs to suggest he is in a different league to Rios? Katsidis barely landed a flush shot to the chin all night. I wouldn't judge Burns' ability to take a punch at 135lbs based on tonights result.
I made several posts earlier making clear I'm a big fan of Burns,but that's partly for non-boxing reasons.He's made a lot from a little but I know his limitations.I'd rather he steered clear of Guerrero.
rios v gurrero would be a great fight.... the ultimate boxer vs brawler match up. imo guerrero is the best boxer in that division. thats including marquez.
Rios is an educated brawler. He doesn't take the kind of flush shots that Katsidis is accustomed to taking, and he reacts to his opponent quicker. Not that it would be a one-sided event, but I would probably favour Rios to beat Guerrero over the distance. I'd love to see it.
Think Guerrero needs another fight at 135 for us to get a true idea of how good he is,but the signs are there.Hope he gets big fights,the medical bills his wife must have incurred will have been sky high.
Indeed. I don't think we can really gauge Guerrero's quality based on victories over Michael Katsidis, Vicente Escobedo, and Joel Casamayor. The latter has been horribly shot for a while. Let me rephrase that. I don't think we should heavily favour Guerrero over a quality operator like Rios based on those level of victories. Those are solid wins.
Rocky didn't really land too many on Burns either over the course of their fight but that one flush shot sent him down in the first, Kats was able to get through a few times and Burns never looked in any trouble. Maybe I'm underrating Burns's chin based on that first round against Rocky Martinez. As you say though, and as I stated earlier he looked defensively solid from front to back so he didn't take that much punishment. As for Guerrero, he let himself down against Casamayor by engaging in that boring almost farcical sparring session but I thought he beat Katsidis more solidly then anyone else has done. Kats couldn't get to him at all and while someone with Kats's defense is the type of opponent Guerrero should shine against, I'm backing Guerrero as the 135 based on what skills I think he possesses. Those of a smart, range controlling boxing who works behind precise and economical punching, especially with shots coming down the pipe. I don't think his 135 resume is as impressive as Rios' who rides ahead with the Antillon, Acosta and Peterson wins. I'll admit that is a good resume for a young fighter like Rios. I'm just basing it on what I personally see in each boxers' arsenals. I do rate Rios, hes a very good young fighter and if he faces and beats Guerrero I wouldn't have any problem giving him his props and saying I was wrong. I'd love to see them get it on at 135, or if thats not possible 140.
