    Very dismissive of you DINAMITA.

I disagree with you, and this is something you're going to have to live with. Leonard went toe to toe with Duran, by his own admission, so of course he was going to be a lot more successful on the offensive in Montreal. Benitez was a better boxer than Duran, and was a lot better off the ropes than Leonard.

Duran of Montreal was not unbeatable. It was a very close fight, actually.

Yes, if he's trained and focused. If not, Duran has him out of there by the eleventh.

The rumor in New York was Duran was kept away from Benetiz when both were in the jr. welter weight range.

Not that Duran feared Benetiz, just that Roberto's management didn't like the style match-up.

No. The way Benitez fought Duran in their '82 bout at 154 is not the way to deal with a prime Duran.

Duran lacked the sharpness, reflexes and physical tools he held at his peak. Benitez was a lot better suited to dealing with that version of Duran at this weight because his technical skills allowed him to nullify Duran's on the inside, whereas a prime Duran's greater physical assets and sharpness would've overcome that and given him the advantage in close, where a lot of their actual fight took place.

Would've still been a close match-up, but I'll take Duran something like 9-6. I scored their actual fight 9-3-3 for Benitez. Oddly enough, I thought Duran did his best work late in that fight.

The speed and defense of Benitez always beats Duran 147 and above.

There's no way a guy that does little more than edge a Palomino is beating a peak Duran.

Duran at 154, was no where near Duran pre-Leonard II, despite the short distance of time between Leonard 1 and the Benitez fight.

Remember guys, Chavez was losing to Randall 4 months after being regarded the best fighter on the planet by some way.

Fighters can morph big time over night given the right (or should I say wrong) circumstances.

MD's career record: 1-0-0, all decisive victories over HOFers.

Who else has that kind of record, besides fantasy Jimmy Young and Tokyo Dougas? No one that I can think of.

I actually thought Benitez fought better at 154 than at 147.. His experience was better and his speed seemed to work well at the weight. Too bad he didn't stay at the weight instead of moving to middleweight. I think he could have won another title had he stayed sharp.

I agrree also!! He fought great at jr mid. Don't know why he fought better but he put it all together. He was a very fragile guy was Benitez. Once Hamsho beat him up when he moved up to middleweight he really lost his focus. would have been cool had hearns not beat him. He met up with the wrong guy. a boxer fighting another great boxer is a toss up but I never will forget hearns missing with body punches and right hands. Even tho Benitez lost he made Hearns look a little foolish!!!! Benitez avoided most of the big Duran and Hearns punches!!!! 160 was not the weight for him for some reason. He was made for jr mid.
