Remember the ref kept Kirkland down against Ishida?

I don't think Kirkland was knocked out, or even particularly hurt, but the impacts of Ishidas shots made his knees buckle.

A clear sign of dropping too much body weight in a short period, Kirkland may go down, but he gets up again. Pure beast mode, El Perro shafted him with his best punch and Kirkland had his eyes on El Perro all the way down, and back on his feet.

 

After a few rounds, sure enough Perro was beat up and a bloody mess, but Kirkland took some of his desperate hooks, and didn't look even the slightest hurt.

I think Lampley is right, Ishida dodged a bullet.

It didn't matter if the ref had let Kirkland back up. It was written in the stars that night that Ishida would beat him.

 

He couldn't cope with Ishida's range for me. Ishida was just about timing his shot right and getting the leverage on them to put Kirkland off balance and get him down. Kirkland wasn't brutally KOed against Ishida but he had no idea what to do and was going to keep getting put on the seat of his pants until the referee stopped it.

He stayed in Ishida's range throughout the whole of that first round. Have a bit of patience. If you're a magnet for shots pick when you're going to attack and until then stay out of range. Kirkland essentially only knows one way to fight, hes very square on and that makes him very easy to drop.

Ishida dodged nothing. He's the sort of fighter James Kirkland has no idea what to do against, he just lucky that hes a big man for 154 and there are no tall lanky fighters who try to control range behind very placed jabs and straight rights apart from a shot Kermit Cintron.

That loss was probably the best think for Kirkland, got him back together with Anne Wolfe, got him refocused, he should go farther now. His legs were shot that night, likely he would have gone right back down again, though I don't think he was mind scrambled, his legs just were not there.

 

Ishida is too slick for Kirkland, the carnage would've just continued if the ref didn't stop it.
Angulo is a brawler and he blew his load trying to get Kirkland out of there in the first 2 minutes, Ishida kept his distance and was picking his shots.

 

i really dnt think thats a fair statement. ishida knocked dude in the first round its not like he was about to fight him and got injured.

 

Funny how it was Joe Cortez too. He gave Marquez a long count in the 1st Pacquiao fight after the 3rd KD but held Kirkland down in the Ishida fight after the 3rd KD when Kirkland clearly didnt look out of it. Stupid ass ref should never be allowed to ref a prize fight anymore.

 

The loss to Ishida, as someone else has said, was the best thing for Kirkland.

 

I think the Ishida loss came from dropping too much weight too quickly.

 

He would have been stopped eventually. Dude got dropped 3 times. First KD was a flash but the following two were real KDs where he was seriously hurt and Ishida was boxing from the outside and had a tight defense so Kirkland had no shot, even if he survived the first round.
