I got this recording on sky, was it that good? consensus was that Kirkland was a limited fighter with no chin and no hope against Angulo. What a difference a fight makes aye?
Kirkland deserves a lot of credit. I said last week I feel Angulo is very overrated but I still felt he would have too much for Kirkland. Kirkland showed good skills along with the power everyone knew he had and he showed a great mental toughness too, to put the Ishida loss to bed like that and overcome that early scare last night. No doubt people will use ring rust and thingsike that as excuses for Angulo but that's BS. Was just a silly decision by Angulo to punch himself out so quick and Kirkland was clinical thereafter. Hopefully he gets his shot at Alvarez but I wouldn't be surprised if that fight doesn't happen. GBP won't be risking the cash cow in there imo
I watched the tape delay Sky showed, and when Dave Darts said do not blink or you'll miss it and Kirkland went down early I thought that was it. Great first round, very good fight.
Fight of the year 2012? :think Brilliant fight though, loved every second apart from losing £20! Angulo taking that kind of punishment was a shocker El Perro really blew himself out after that barrage in round one whereas when JK had him hurt, he picked his shots very well and that was a telling difference in the fight imo. Kirkland showed a lovely jab at times and it seemed to have a serious amount of power behind it. New found respect for Kirkland too, it's easy to get caught in the hype and say "Glass jawed fraud" "he got bummed in prison" etc but that was a great showing of heart and grit too pull out a massive victory
